Gothic Games
This is one of the fantasy game series that will immerse you in like no other. Made by German studio Piranha Bytes, set in a medieval fantasy world where Humans are losing battles against the Orcs. Gothic is an Action Role Playing Game series just like Witcher or Elder Scrolls series. Gothic games tend to have more realistic approach to gameplay where you learn new skill by visiting certain trainers in the game world and you improve your fighting skills by usage. Every Gothic game is heavily based on crafting your own weapons, hunting and cooking your own food and collecting ingredients for your alchemical potions. That feature adds to immersion and will get you hooked on this excellent series.
Gothic
First Gothic game was released in 2001. and game received decent reviews considering it is a brand new series from an unknown game developers at the time. Quickly though, game became popular for it's story and gameplay set in a low fantasy medieval world. Our hero is a prisoner that had to work in the mines to mine more magical raw material for weapons and armors to help the fight against advancing Orcs. Decent RPG game that placed Piranha Bytes on a gaming map of the world.
Gothic 2
Highly praised Gothic 2 was released in 2003. and has become cult favorite by many gamers. Game continues where things left off from the first game with barrier created by the mages broken and every convict escaped, orcs advanced and our nameless hero was there to fight with the sword or as a mage with firestorms, it is always fun to slay those Orcs and discover greater evil that lurks around.
Gothic 3
Largest game in the series Gothic 3 will take you on a ride that will last for weeks. Graphics at the time were the best on the market and game still looks great today. It has the same realistic combat and leveling system, although sometimes it can get tedious to fight the wildlife and here is why. I like to call this game "run from the boars simulator", I got to say this game has the deadliest boars ever created. Once they hit you, you get perma stunned and you can't move. I'd rather fight full regiment of Orcs than one lonely boar. If we disregard those wild boar incidents Gothic 3 is among my favorite games ever created. There is a Big beautiful world just waiting for you to explore it, highly recommended.
Arcania: Gothic 4
Last game in the series is where things went bad. Don't get me wrong, it is a good looking game kinda worth playing if you must, but it lacks the polish and draw of previous games. Game is not a direct sequel to Gothic 3, it is a spinoff game with new story and was made by different developers Spellbound Entertainment. Standard adventuring story about a hero returning home and finding out his village is destroyed by war, later he learns about ancient artifact and the great evil it unlocks, it is a decent game but I would rather recommend you to skip this one.
