Gaming Retrospective - Star Wolves

in #gaming7 years ago

Star Wolves is a space simulator hybrid between RTS and RPG released in 2005 and was developed by the Russian X-bow Software. The game is set in the future where mankind has expanded and created huge interstellar empire with various corporations each with their own goals and agendas. During the course of the game the empire gets attacked by an alien species and the players are tasked with forming a team of mercenaries to take on missions for the various factions and try to find out what is going on.

The main goal in Star Wolves is to explore the whole star systems and do quests for various factions. Players control one big freighter space ship and several fighter planes whose pilots gain experience and can unlock new stronger abilities as they level up. You can then move those pilots to fly stronger fighters with improved weaponry scavenged from enemy debris, or you can buy them in space stations when you advance through the game. You can also sell everything and accumulate more money to buy stronger ships and upgrade them with better shields, engines and such.  It easy to get lost in space in this great looking space game. It gets even better when you find out there are two more Space Wolves games.

So you get to control a squadron? Is this similar to Shattered Galaxy? Though I think this is a single player.

Not like that one. Squadron of 6 fighters and big freighter ship as the base of operations.

I see... base of operations acts like a rpg town? (like those with vendors and npc?) Thanks for sharing!

No, towns are the space station where you buy and sell stuff. The ship is a mobile base where you start the fighters and repair them between missions.

I get it now! Thank you @lennstar!

That is one of my favorite games. Good job bro!

We used to have these PC games magazines that used to have a disc with 10-20 demo games coming with them and I am pretty sure I had a Space Wolves demo somewhere. Never played more than that though. :)

Pretty cool looking game, though I'm probably biased since I love sci-fi and space games, lol. How long would you guesstimate that it takes to beat the game?

Also, this is definitely one of the silliest names for a video game I've seen in awhile, haha. It makes me think of like the title a cheesy 80's action TV show would have.

Long time has passed since I played this game (all three of them). Rough estimate around 20-30h every game, you can squeeze even more time if you want explore every sector. One would almost confuse this with warhammer40k because of the wolves part. Very interesting franchise.

This was an enjoyable game back in the day. Probably still decent today too.

Wow didn't know there was a star wolves 3! Have to look it up, playing this one was very funny, even if the randomness sometimes made me going ARRG.

I'd say this is one of those franchises where every game looks the same, you can almost consider both sequels as expansion packs with more ships, new characters and slightly improved graphics. Everything else stays the same, still fun though for the fans of the series.

Excellent game, the subjects of space wars are fascinating, they always liked me :)

Thankyou for sharing my friend @moon32walker . .

Nice review had never played a space game except on nintendo what is call Galaxy i guess :D

Thank you so much for sharing all this information! that's great! All the best! Waiting for more posts! :)
