Gaming Retrospective - Soldier of Fortune

in #gaming7 years ago

I wonder how many steemit gamers remember this FPS game from the year 2000.  Way before Fallout 3 VATS system there was Soldier of Fortune's "Ghoul" engine with multiple zones of impact on the model. Story of the game revolves around terrorist organization that stole a couple of nuclear warheads and trying to sell them to the highest bidder all over the globe. Soldier of Fortune John Mullins with the help of his friend will try to stop the terrorists plan of selling the weapons of mass destruction the goriest way possible.

Soldier of Fortune is one of the first FPS games with gore mechanic. Models had 26 points of impact and their body parts would fly around once you hit them with the bullet or any other type of ballistic projectile. Shooting mechanics were great and seeing all that in action at the time was sight to be seen. Naturally the squeamish public didn't like the violence in this game and the game was banned in some countries. I wish the governments would pay attention more on the real life violence instead of focusing on the virtual one.

when you first console was atari, more than 30 years playing games :P

It was fun to see bodies flying, as in Virtua cop but without "ontherails" action

good game

Me and my friends were rocking that in a LAN.

People tend to forget these classic games, SoF was one of them. I don't remember playing it in multiplayer. I just remember human bits and pieces flying all over the place.

It had one good multiplayer map - the others were too big.

It was the time of 56K modems and LAN parties on coaxial cables.

I've spent most of my young days playing in LAN parties. 56k modems were so much fun :P

Wow, I believe this was the first FPS game I ever played. Good times! :)

Bloody way to start your FPS career :)

I remember playing this game, but the only thing that I remember about it is dismembering the enemies and having fun doing it. A good retrospective to follow up with this is the game "Black". It reminded me of this game.
