Gaming Retrospective - Perimeter
Perimeter is hands down one of the most innovative RTS games mainly because of it's terraforming game mechanics. Game was released in 2004 and was developed by the Russian 1C Company that is known for their King's Bounty games. Perimeter is one of a kind SF game that takes humanity to another plane of existence which brings a whole set of new problems to solve. In a distant future humans had to find the way from dying Earth and with advanced technologies they managed to travel to another dimension where new enemy capable of projecting psychic fears named Scourge appeared and three ideologically different factions had to survive the onslaught.
Main defense for Scourge attacks are massive perimeter energy domes. To build and activate those energy domes one require a lot of energy, and to build all that power players need to terraform environments surrounding their base of operations. Additional defenses like turrets are needed once the energy dome goes down, once defenses are established it is time to build some basic offensive units that can use nano technology and morph into advanced units like tanks and war fighters. With that in mind you can adapt to almost any situation and build up your forces accordingly. At the time of release this game looked great, game soundtrack was also great, add all that with innovative gameplay and you had a RTS worth playing.
Another quality game that escaped my notice. This one looks great. Still worth looking for?
There are better RTS games out there, this one offers something out of the box though. It is up to you, worth playing yes.
