Machines is a hybrid between RTS and FPS games released in 1999 and was developed by Charybdis, this was a genre very much explored after Battlezone success which was the first hybrid where those two gaming genres were combined. Machines was less focused on the story which was quite simple at the time, it was more about non stop RTS action with the cool feature of taking you units for a spin in a FPS mode.

Another really fun game feature was a machine customization where you have the body types and weapon types which you can combine to create a super machine capable of total destruction. Robot legs, tank tracks, tires and all sorts of weaponry like rockets, guns or plasma were available and you could create a true mechanized frankenstein monster. Other than that, the game had standard base building and resource gathering just like any other Real Time Strategy game. Graphics were great at the time with effects from cool looking blaster fire and 3D environments were nice to look at. Very fun part of the game was just driving around in your creation and shooting things. I almost forgot about this game which was shadowed by the Battlezone games, It was a fun little RTS/FPS experience.
