Gaming Retrospective - Jagged Alliance 2

in #gaming7 years ago

Jagged Alliance 2 is a tactical turn based strategy game very popular at the time of release back in 1999. This game managed to gather huge cult following today and those people are making mods and worshiping this game like it's some kind of deity. Was Jagged Alliance 2 really that great and deserving of such a praise? Let's go back down the memory lane and see what this game is all about.

Game is set in a modern era in a fictional South American country of Arulco where you as a player control a squad of mercenaries that you can hire for many missions with various objectives. End game goal is to recapture Arulco's cities and ultimately defeat Deidranna, evil woman in control of the country.

Gameplay is very similar to XCom and Fallout Tactics games with turn based combat and squad of fighters improving their skills as the game progresses. There are tons of options here, every man or woman in the squad can specialize in many areas such as marksmanship, medical, mechanics and explosives.

When it comes to tactical battles this is where this game shines the most and that old school look adds to the immersion, one of the main reasons why the game was so popular at the time and still is. Squadies can set up ambushes, stealth kill people, blow them up and capture location to earn more money to purchase better weapons, armors and hire new squad mates. This game is very replayable with multiple solutions how to beat the map objective  and there are multiple entry points when you start the mission, add to that so many mercenaries you can hire and you will have an epic game worth playing even in 2017.

One of the best, and still very playable today!

And the concept is something to be explored today. There was a Jagged Alliance game released not too long ago Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, decent game but lacked big budget to make it big.

I looooved this game. Thanks for the reminder! I should post about some of my favourites!

Classic, and please do, more gaming content on steemit is always welcome :)

Ah! I had some great times with this one. :)

Thanks, brought back some memories.

I seem to bring a lot of memories with these gaming blogs. Time to post something new, playing Torment: Tides of Numenera, just released spiritual successor of Planescape Torment. It's gooood :)
