Gaming Retrospective - Ground Control

in #gaming7 years ago

Ground Control is one of the first full 3D Real Time Strategy games released in a year 2000 by Siera Entertainment. Story takes us in 25th century after mankind rebuild itself from nuclear war that destroyed everything. Humanity became more civilized and started to colonize other planets. On one particular planet called Krig 7-B an alien artifact of immense power was found and that engaged new power struggle between two factions in the game, Crayven Corporation and religious sect Order of the Dawn.

There is no base building in this game, it is all about tactics and using terrain for your advantage. Units for the first time ever had firing arcs, and you could see the artillery shots flying through the air realistically. Missions start from the dropship that can be loaded with the troops of several categories like infantry, vehicles, support and aircraft. It is encouraged to preserve your units and redeploy them more experienced and stronger for other missions. Every unit has it's strenghts and weaknesses and this is where this game shines the most, specially when you add the veterancy to the mix, the battles can be very fun if you know all the tactics. 2nd game was even better.

Hey bud I love reading your gaming retrospectives. Can I suggest a game? One of my favorites of all time Freedom Fighters!

Tnx. Unfortunately I missed that one.

You should see if you can get a hold of it, play it and give your review! It is a classic in my eyes. Loved it! Upset they went with Kayne & Lynch instead of a Part 2.

It's not a type of game that would interest me, sry.

What are your favorite genres?

RTS, TBS, RPG and occasionally FPS.

I never got warm with that, probably because there was no building, as you wrote. Can't even remember if or not lol.

The terrain thing was good though, just a bit hair-rising micro managment. Place them HERE and not ONE pixel farther!!!

I liked to digest every RTS that came my way and find good things about it. This game was something brand new at the time in RTS genre. I liked it.
