Gaming Retrospective - DarkStar One

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

DarkStar One is a Space Combat Simulator that was released in 2006 and developed by Ascaron Entertainment. The way this game plays and feels reminds me of another popular Space Combat game Freelancer, so anyone who liked Freelancer will feel right at home with DarkStar One. We take the role of Kayron, a space pilot in Galactic Force who gets to pilot prototype ship capable of literal evolution and explore the galaxy. Main quest is discovering who killed your father and discover the mystery about the ship he gave you before his demise. Meanwhile a dangerous alien race is trying to rule the galaxy, something we can't allow.

Fighting multiple fighters at the same time is pretty common and if you like that kind of adrenaline filled action, this game might be the one for you. DarkStar One will evolve once you gather special minerals from asteroids, then you can upgrade four different ship sections that will drastically improve ship's combat capabilities. There are many different activities you can do in this game, from bounty hunting, trading, escaping space pirates and exploring massive sectors, almost everything any space explorer would want to do. Although some space sectors and missions do get repetitive at times, this still is a unique game worth exploring.

Yes. I played this really good game. Thanks for recall.

I'm sort of sad that I only discovered my love for space sims in the past year after read this :(

Very fun gaming genre for me. There are not too many games like this, so every one that was released caught my attention. Full version of Star Citizen will be epic.

We may be dead by then though :D

Haha yes, very true :)

Spend so much hours on this game the graphics were amazing back then!!

Eye pleasing for sure back then.

This is one of those games that took me many restarts over a few years before I got into it. For whatever reason, one day it just clicked and I couldn't stop playing it.

Voice acting was horrible, but the story was pretty good and the game play was solid.

It's not as good as Freelancer, but it's worth playing if you're into the genre.

It's definitely an underappreciated title.
