Gaming Retrospective - Blade & Sword
Blade & Sword was one of the more obscure ARPGs from 2003, game was created by Pixel Studio. This game had that great and immersive isometric graphics and the main theme was influenced by the Chinese mythology. Story takes us 3000 years in the past where creatures from other dimensions suddenly started appearing and our heroes were sent to get to the bottom of this and destroy the source of the disturbance. Creatures like demons and beastmen were a common occurrence in this game, there were some innovative mechanics like grabbing your foes and using combo abilities on them with the game's three class choices.
Three classes are Barbarian, Swordsman and Dual-Wielding Fighter. Every character plays and feels different, a feature well known in Hack&Slash gaming genre. This game is more focused on chaining combo attacks than on one single powerful ability. It is very common to see 20X or 40X combo chains, that feature gave this game something new to experience that is different from standard ARPG formula. Enemies in the game come in all shapes and sizes and are inspired by the eastern mythology. Blade & Sword was not your typical ARPG, even though it looked like one with standard isometric graphics, the setting and gameplay were something new and fun to experience at the time.
Nice! Looks like a Diablo! Never played this game but every game that is a bit like Diablo is nice!
I liked the game, one of the more unique ARPGs on the market.
Yeah, at that time that gameplay wasn't anywhere to be found. Really nice to have something else than the standard FPS
