Gaming Retrospective - Arx Fatalis
Arx Fatalis is an RPG game released in 2002 and was developed by Arkane Studios. During the times of Elder Scrolls: Morrowind massive popularity, Arx Fatalis snuck by and was almost forgotten by the masses. While Morrowind was a huge sandbox game, Arx Fatalis was more closed in game that reminds me more of games like System Shock 2 and Deus Ex in a fantasy setting, and that worked well for this game. Set in a fantasy world where living on the surface is deadly for it's inhabitants, so humans had to move into subterranean caves and live inside with all sorts of fantasy races. Our character wakes up in a prison cell and and soon after gets involved in saving the world from an evil diety trying to manifest itself.
Once you create your character and start adventuring you will quickly notice the depth of this game and its systems. You could craft all sorts of items, you could be stealthy assassin, melee tank, or a spellslinger. Spell casting system was a unique one, players had to use the mouse pointer and draw the runes to create magic spells and cast them. You could bribe the guards and solve quests in multiple ways. I guess only one bad part of the game was melee combat that felt very clunky and unresponsive, if that part was done better this game would be a classic. Game still looks decent for a playthrough, and if you skipped this one it might be worth to you to check this game out.

Oh nice, I heard about this game back when it was launched but never got around to playing it then, due to having a low spec computer at the time, due to having a low spec computer at the time. Now it's on my to-play list thanks to GOG sales :D

I love the idea of drawing out the spells you cast, it's a pretty cool thought. I'll look for this game later.
