Elder Scrolls Games

Bethesda gaming and publishing company gained their massive popularity with highly entertaining Elder Scrolls game series. From simple Arena to highly complex Morrowind and latest in the series Skyrim. Every Elder Scrolls game is set in the fantasy world of Tamriel filled with interesting lore and history. Elder Scrolls games are Role Playing Games filled with exploration and action, to complete these game you will need many days of fun gameplay. In this blog I will focus on successful singleplayer Elder Scrolls games and maybe talk about new card game and Elder Scrolls Online when I get a chance to play them later on.

Elder Scrolls Arena

1994. is the year when the first game in the series was released. Originally game was meant to be Arena combat game, but developers decided to implement exploration part of the game and adventuring. Game is set around Imperial City and player could explore surrounding areas and explore dangerous dungeons. Hard game with big world to explore. Great start of the series.

Elder Scrolls Daggerfall

Second game in the series showed to world potential of Bethesda Softworks to create great RPG games. Game was set in an area around Daggerfall, a city in a province of High Rock set in the big world of Tamriel. It was a fully 3D rendered world where players could build their own classes and explore big sandbox area slaying monsters and such.

Elder Scrolls Morrowind

Third game in the series and one of my favorite games ever created is Morrowind. Game is set in a Tamriel province named Morrowind. Dark and dangerous area filled with Dark Elves or Dunmer, area is filled with Dwemer ruins of ancient technologically advanced Dwarf race. Game set new graphics and gameplay standards for the rest of the gaming worlds. Everything about Morrowind was great, great RPG system, huge world to explore where there were no compasses if you get lost and you would get lost.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion

Fourth installment of this great series is set in the middle of Tamriel in a Cyrodill province where some cult is trying to open oblivion gates to set the world on fire with Daedra monstrosities. As you were progressing through out the game enemies would get stronger and I found it funny when normal bandits suddenly wore glass and daedric armors, it can't all be great. There is no casual when you play Elder Scrolls game and world was also huge with multiple factions and side quests.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim

2010. is a year when everyone became Dovahkiin or Dragonborn and started yelling words on dragon toungue on poor and unsuspecting wild life of Skyrim, northern province of Tamriel. It is a huge and detailed world best played in winter months to immerse yourself more. Great dragon Alduin returned and your goal as a Dragonborn was to stop him. Great dragons are so nicely done in this game and you will be on and edge of your seat every time you fight one. What is next after this one for single player Elder Scrolls time will tell.

Being a mac user, and more into tabletop rpgs and LARPs, I didn't have access to these games, but I heard about them for years. When Morrowind came out I became obsessed with wanting to play it. I managed to borrow a PC for one month and dive into it. Then when Oblivion came out I buckled and bought an xbox to play it. And Skyrim was phenomenal. This month I've borrowed a friend's PC to check out Skyrim on mods, and am playing through Enderal. Great games!

Wow, Enderal is like Skyrim on steroids. Graphics X10, strong PC is needed for that mod.

Morrowind is still my favorite. It had a unique atmosphere, an engaging main story, deep sidequests, superb expansions, and a large modding community.

I'd very much like to replay Morrowind these days. Game was so great in every aspect.

Daggerfall was where I learned english. Don't ask me how long it took me to find out what "gotcha!" meant. Was pre-internet era.
And damn was that game buggy (no quest resolving). But fun nonetheless. Much fun.

Morrowind has the best atmosphere. And the music!

A modern Daggerfall-like game would be nice, with vast lands and towns and villages where you could get the power on them by raiding etc. building up your own kingdom if you want (a bit like mount&blade) or just finding more and more riches in the dungeon.

But please no "upgrading" enemies. When a bandit is suddenly harder to kill then the first dragon.

Interestingly enough I learned english by playing so many different games. Elder Scrolls series is among the best gaming series where you could learn english language by playing the game :) New game will be epic. Maybe they take in the settlement editor from Fallout 4 and implement it into new Elder Scrolls game.
