Anno Games pt.2

in #gaming8 years ago

Anno is one of those not massively popular RTS series running for almost 20 years that is consistently good in what it represents. Anno games are not heavy on war elements, it is about slow and detailed city building, resource gathering, trading and progressing trough the ages. Every Anno game is mostly based upon island gameplay, meaning that there are few islands around your main one with rare resource you don't have on your island and to get it you will have to expand to win. Part 2 is more focused on modern Anno games that added strong dose of SF.

Anno 1404

Last Historic Anno game was released in 2009. As always we had a chance to play immersive economic simulator in most up to date graphics at the time of it's release. Every building has its purpose for production of goods, as your population continues to grow your population requires more rare resources. Oriental colonies are where we can get those special goods and make our population happy. End goal is to build monuments and cathedrals.

Anno 2070

This game is when Anno series took a different more SF route and flash forwarded into the future. Humanity at this point can take two routes for moving forward, more industrial with dirty energy like oil and nuclear power, or full eco with wind turbines and solar plants. Depending on which route you take your cities will look the part. In later stages of the game you can even build underwater bases and for rare materials there to complete end game components. Different that it's previous historic games Anno 2070 offers brand new perspective on good old Anno games.

Anno 2205

Last Anno game is one for the ages, however at times it gets overly complicated with micromanaging three thematically different bases at the same time. You begin playing at your standard beginner island and start researching components for the moon base, game then switches to polar region where you need to gather rare resources to finish building the components, and when you finally build the components you can start building the base on the moon. Every area will have different mechanics, in polar regions you will need to build heating installations, on the moon you need to build domes to expand. Very ambitious game that mostly did everything right, but at later stages of the game it gets over complicated and it looses part of it's charm. Visually stunning and will require you to have a strong PC.

I put many a hours into Anno 1602, used to network with my brothers and have lan games

I've played 2070 the most. I like the vision of the future devs had from ecological perspective.

Stunning environment...

It definitely is visually stunning but very complicated and time consuming in a tedious way. Thanks for sharing. Upvoted

Yeah one of the best looking city building games.
