Anno Games pt.1

in #gaming7 years ago

Anno is one of those not massively popular RTS series running for almost 20 years that is consistently good in what it represents. Anno games are not heavy on war elements, it is about slow and detailed city building, resource gathering, trading and progressing trough the ages. Every Anno game is mostly based upon island gameplay, meaning that there are always few islands around your main one with rare resource you don't have on your island, and to win you will have to expand. This is a game series where once you get hooked you will always come back for more.

Anno 1602

First Anno game was released in 1998. and just like any start up franchise had simple beginnings. Games are played on an island archipelago where you would have to build you settlements, explore the land, engage in trades and occasionally engage in small battle skirmishes. This game is all about expanding and upgrading buildings and making your settlers well fed and satisfied. Game offers slow pace gameplay that will immerse you slowly but surely.

Anno 1503

Second game in the series was released in 2003. and is also based on finding new colonizable islands and building and maintaining your settlement. Settlements are more detailed and battles are more strategic. There are few levels of progression, player starts a pioneer then continues to improve to settler, citizen, merchant and aristocrat. Every level of upgrade will require from you to find more resources and rare goods.

Anno 1701

Third game in the series was released in 2006. Again it is all about balancing your economy and upgrading your towns.Natural disasters are added new feature in Anno 1701, randomized occurrences that could cripple your advancements. Some new things are added like tax slider to make more money and make your citizens sad, or reduce taxes and make them more productive, it is always a balancing act when it comes to taxation. Some new civilizations are added and buildings differ from other nations.
