Can The Block Chain Bring Fairness and Transparency To Competitive Mind Sports?

in #gaming6 years ago (edited)

Mind Sports are intellectual games of skill. Think of games like Chess or Checkers, and you're on the right track. There's a huge number of people all over the world who compete everyday in these games, but why on Earth would you want to put them on the block chain? Well, for as long as there has been competition there has been somebody trying to gain an unfair advantage.

Unfortunately, you don't just have to look out for your opponents misdeeds, but even those who host the contest might not be playing by the rules. The block chain however can't be bribed. It's transparent, and it knows all. This opens the doors for a new way to play these games that is fair to all parties involved.

I'm a big fan of decentralized platforms, but you might be wondering why Mind Sports would need something like this. Have you ever played a carnival game that you were sure was rigged, but you couldn't prove it? That's probably because the same person that was taking your money was also handing out the prizes. This creates a huge conflict of interest. In a decentralized platform there is no solitary governing body. This makes the process much more fair for everyone involved.

MindSports.io wants to bring these aspects to the largely under served Mind Sports market. In any cut throat competition, especially one where large sums of money are involved, there will be rampant cheating and gaming of the system. The Mind Sports.io platform will be built on the Ethereum chain to record all of these transactions for the players.

This decentralized platform will not only allow you to play these games in a trustworthy system, but it will also allow anyone to host their own events. Players will be rewarded with the platform's Mind Tokens which can be traded or sold on an exchange just like any other cryptocurrency. These tokens will be held in an escrow account before the match will even begin so all parties will be assured that they will be awarded their prize.

The competition champions will of course get their pot but much more interesting are the other ways to earn Mind Tokens on the platform. Everyone who contributes to the Mind Sports platform will be able to earn tokens. You can host your own Mind Sports competition, and you'll earn tokens based on how many people are participating. This could be a great opportunity for somebody who's already involved in a competitive gaming community on other sites like forums or chat rooms to build the MindSports.io user base and be rewarded for it.

In addition to hosts, there are also arbitrators. When there's a dispute in a match an arbitrator will step in to settle it. This will of course be an impartial third party. These people are also rewarded with Mind Tokens for their efforts. After all, you probably can't be the chess champion every single time, but you can be an arbitrator or a host fairly regularly if you'd like to earn some tokens. I love platforms that don't forget to reward the people that help make their projects great.

MindSports.io will also feature a governance system. I also enjoy these features a lot, because it lets me be more involved in the future of projects I invest in. A governance platform allows all the coin holders and members of the community to vote on what new developments the project will have. In the case of Mind Sports, they will start out with 10 games initially. However, the community will be able to propose, and then vote on new games that they would like to be added to the platform.

It's important to listen to your users, and governance is a great way to hear their input, and to help make almost any project stronger with community participation. This is certainly a big opportunity for crypto currency to gain new ground. This was my entry for the Original Works contest.

I actually don't know how to play back gammon, but I do like chess. : )

I was a chess fan as a kid. I'm actually more of a board game player these days (it's sociable) and we play 4-6 people. Carcassone, Power Grid, Qatan, etc. but Backgammon is one of my favourite all time games. It's very pattern based and the random factor of the dice makes you improve your strategy. I highly recommend it.
