Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Review - More of the same

Since Left Behind, the crazy extension of The Last of Us, we're immediately alert when Naughty Dog speaks about singleplayer dlc. Similarly with The Lost Legacy, the expansion of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Because what do these talented developers do with the world of Uncharted if they get the chance to get out of touch with other characters and a new setting?

The story of Nathan Drake has been completed with Uncharted 4, but fortunately he is not the only adventurer to leave expensive lost cities in a heap of ashes. Dief Chloe Frazer and soldier Nadine Ross, Uncharted's side characters, go along in The Lost Legacy. They are hunting for the precious butt of God Ganesh, but they are not the only ones in them. A bad guy with a good army and a lot of explosives has exactly the same goal in mind.

It's a common set-up for an Uncharted game, but that's not bad. In this context, Naughty Dog can do a lot of fun with memorable rollercoaster pieces, humor and a good story that relates to the relationship between characters. In practice, however, this is against.

Repetition exercise

Lost Legacy feels a repeat of Uncharted 4 in all. That's nice if you want more of the same, but it feels too lazy. That does not mean that the creators had it easy. The game looks very beautiful with some beautiful new locations. The Lost Legacy also plays smoothly, with a good variety of shooting, driving, climbing and puzzling.

The Lost Legacy gives something more freedom than other Uncharted games. In the first half, you drive with a jeep through the jungle, while picking up a lever at different locations, or collecting coins. This freedom, however, does not add much. It even takes away the tension because you know that you have to finish a number of locations before continuing with the story and rollercoaster rides where you play Uncharted.

Humidity

An important part of the charm of the Uncharted games is also the humor. Chloe, who controls you in the game, is a lot more serious than Drake. Your companion Nadine rarely makes a joke. As a result, the game lacks some airiness. It's also a pity that Naughty Dog has not done anymore with these cool characters. Throughout the story, the two grow closer together and Chloe also sees a sensitive side of herself, but it remains superficial.

What works well in The Lost Legacy are the mechanics. Slinging on ropes never bothers. The fights in which you get the freedom to tackle them as you like are excellent again. But this worked well in Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy has not changed anything. There is no new twist in the gameplay, no renewal. When Uncharted 4's inspiration came true, even the Uncharted 2 train level has been dug up again to deal with a lot of bombings.

There is one short piece in which The Lost Legacy really does something beautiful and new. The creators then do everything in order to show how beautiful it is with great exclamation marks. Both in the repetitive commentary of the ladies, and the fact that you literally make a selfie.

Photos

The Lost Legacy can be played in six hours, but you'll take it a little longer if you grab the optional content. The multiplayer from Uncharted 4 has been added here again for the lover, including a survival mode. However, most of them will play The Lost Legacy for the adventure.

During this adventure, Chloe lets you take a picture with her indestructible smartphone at certain points. If you played the game, you'll swipe through the pictures afterwards in order to collect memories. Finally, this collection of pics captures Lost Legacy: beautiful, but not memorable.
