Real Farm DLC Review - The pleasant learning curve

With the popularity of farming simulators, it is not surprising that more and more parties are immersing themselves in the genre. At the end of last year, The game offered a career mode that made it possible to distinguish itself from other titles and also the learning curve was very pleasant. The game, however, also struggled with a lot of sloppy errors, pop-up and other weird problems that could seriously interfere with the fun. Now several months later new content has appeared and that gives us the same reason to watch the game again.

On to Germany

Before we go deeper into the current state of the game, we first look at the new content. The most important addition is the new 'Grünes Tal' map. Although the publisher describes it as Western Europe, it looks very much German and that yields variation compared to the other folder that is standard in the game. The buildings are very different, the environment is just a bit more forested and it is all greener. The folder is about the same size as the other folder, so you can do enough again. On the one hand, this can be a company yourself, but you can also take on jobs for others.

The map is offered for a certain amount of time and that is of course a nice gesture towards the players. But even if the folder were not offered for free, it would certainly have been worth a few euros. This thanks to the completely new interior and beautiful design. Much more interesting is that this folder is not just an extra environment, because it has made more work than would actually be necessary and that can only be praised. How come? Well, this folder can be selected in a free game, but you can also select the folder in career mode.

Start over

For example, if you have just purchased the game or if you are tired of your current career and you want something new, you can just do that on this folder. It is designed so that you get the tutorial again and the same objectives gradually. Which means as much as producing all the steps from a crop, but also taking orders, renting vehicles, buying your farm, and so on. For players who already know the game, this may be a bit redundant, for newcomers it is a nice alternative. It is also nice to be able to start again on this map, because it offers a different environment.

As already mentioned, it is more than just a new folder and that can be appreciated. The addition is fine and adds a significant part to the game, making it a lot more extensive than before. It does not stop there, because it is now possible to grow potatoes. With the free package you get not only the crop, also some vehicles are added to the game, so you can grow the potatoes anyway. Of course there are steps linked to this during the renovation process, so that makes for more variation. In short, the two (free) additions are both an asset to the game, because it creates more diversity.

Good to play?

In my review i was critical of various aspects of the game that were not in order and that influenced the fun of playing. Instead of some updates and letting the game go for what it is, they are planning to continue supporting Real Farm in the long term. That means new content, but also good listening to the community and adding features, problem solving and more. These problems are certainly a point of attention and now, a month or four later, various issues have been addressed. Not everything has been solved yet, but a lot of unevenness has smoothed out.

A serious problem, not being able to sow land because the game demanded more of you than was possible, has now been tweaked, making it no longer a big obstacle. Various sloppy and stupid mistakes have also been removed, including painfully slow reverse driving or not being able to drive through an opening with an attachment if you had bought something in the store. So there is absolute improvement in the whole, but there is still no lack of bugs. For example, the physics on the new map still have strange freaks and your machines still have trouble with pieces of land that are not even, so you always have to ride small pieces of land again to do everything as it should.

It is also remarkable that the spraying of land is still very fast, because with less than half of the country have done, you are already done. Strange if you have to plow and sow almost everything, you want to get 100% meters full at those steps. This shows that there are all kinds of things in Real Farm that require attention. Nevertheless, the game has improved and the addition of new content makes it worth it to dive into again. Meanwhile, the developer continues to implement improvements, so at next DLC we will look at the state of the game again.
