Let's Play Blockle - A Game Review

in #gaming8 years ago

Today we are going to take a look at Blockle. This physics based casual tower dismantling game will have you playing Jenga on your computer or console. You can get it on Steam for 4 Euros and 99 cents or your regional equivalent.

Gameplay

I don’t think I really need to introduce anyone to the concept behind this game as almost everyone has played Jenga at a point in their lives – and Blockle is essentially Jenga – without the copyrighted name and available to be played with your friends through the computer or console. But, just to be sure, here’s what you do in the game. You pull out blocks out of a tower. If the tower falls during your round, you lose. If it falls during an opponents turn, you win! That’s it.
And you will be doing this exact thing in Blockle. The question is – are the physics good? Does it feel at least somewhat realistic? And I’m forced to answer – no, not at all. As in Jenga, the best tactic is to be careful and to pull the blocks out slowly, here the exact opposite is the best. The faster your pull , the less the tower moves.

I’m pretty sure the physics model just doesn't comprehend how quick you can move, specially if you configure your mouse to ridiculous sensitivity settings, but not even those are needed here. Just a quick snatch will pull the block outside of the tower without almost any impact on the tower. I've even managed to pull out a whole floor out of the tower without having it fall over. And yes, that is technically possible in real Jenga, but highly unlikely.
And once you figure out that this is the case – that the faster you pull the blocks the better – the game becomes incredibly boring. Because both you and your opponent will be doing the same exact thing and it becomes only a matter of luck who wins, because sometimes the tower will just fall even-though you did the same exact thing is previously.

Graphics

Graphically the game is also quite boring. It is just a table with the block tower and a living room around you. Nothing really to say about it.

Conclusion

So, in conclusion: Don’t buy this. Maybe if it cost like a dollar and the fast pull technique didn't work, this could be a fun party game. But for 5 Euros you can get so many better games to play and have fun with. Combine this with the fact that after 5 minutes you will figure out the perfect technique and you get something that isn't worth the money. Or just buy the original Jenga and play that. I hear real world physics are incredible.

Thanks for sharing the review.

Nice review. I have been thinking of getting a computer to play video games. This review has got me remembering what I used to play. The game that I would love to play again, I haven't played in years, is Sim City.

hey man :)

SimCity is not the best City sim out there now, the one I linked is :)

I tried to buy that on my computer, it works on Linux. But it didn't work on mine. So i got a refund. I upgraded my graphics card and bought it again. It still wouldn't work so I got another refund. I have almost given up on it. I just need a new computer :) it looks really good.
