Homosexual developer Robert Yang purposefully tries to agitate conservative people. He replaced male genitals with guns in his newly released game The Tearoom, yet he will likely experience censorship again.

Robert Yang is, at least by his own words, the second most banned game developer when it comes to Twitch. Just a quick glance at his creations will reveal that this is no conspiracy, but that Yang is helping this quite a bit himself. For example, in this game „Hurt me plenty“ you „torture“ your victim in some BDSM playtime or his game Stick Shift is essentially a masturbate while driving simulator.

Because Twitch lacks precisely written regulations when it comes to streamed content, Yang sees his bans are censorship. He does avoid explicitly showing genitals, but his creations still get on the blacklist almost immediately right after their release. And he wants to show the absurdity of censorship by replacing male genitals with something that has never been censored on Twitch – with guns.

The Tearoom has also another purpose then just giving the bird to censors. It reminds of the uneasy situations homosexuals had in the first half of the previous century, when just the act of having sex with a person of the same gender was a crime. In the year 1962 in Ohio, police used a camera to monitor male public restrooms to gain evidence against 38 suspects that then faced up to a year in prison for sodomy (and the police also made the first color gay porn movie thanks to this)

It is this context that makes the game interesting. You are waiting in these filthly restrooms for random people and if you manage to make eye contact you can perform oral sex on them in a simple mini-game. The goal of the game is to collect eight weapons that are replacing the penises in game. But that‘s not as easy, because the police is trying to stop you from doing that, by sending in undercover officers. And this is actually something that the police used to do in the past.

Yang game is very provocative, but isnt just controversial without any context. You can download The Tearoom from the developers website HERE for free as well as all his other games. And while game-wise the game is quite simple, it does work very well as an artistic expression.
