You Probably Don't Like Lasers and Robots

And who could blame you? Artificial intelligence and the human desire to expand infinitely into space are the most tedious subjects second only to our desire to blow each other up with intense photon beams positioned on the end of remote controlled machines.

But if you did like that kind of stuff I would have to bring up LaserChain as possible point of interest. Ingenious is not a word I throw around lightly (no self-proclaimed genius worth their ego would) but I will toss it out here, as LC hits so many buttons .

First, there is their dash to the front of blockchain best uses for in-game economies. Unlike many companies, whose desires to ‘crypto’ are impotent attempts at ‘innovating’ for PR campaigns, LaserChain is a vigorous overhaul of what it means to move in and out of game economies. I have likened it to being able to trade your Magic for Pokemon cards. We gamers have lost this inter-game solvency in no uncertain terms and I for one am ready to take it back. And before you give me some half-baked spiel about how decentralizing will create a speculation in games that will negatively affect game play, let me remind you of the current casino loot crate model we are working with. I didn’t say we were reinventing the ancient nature of gaming’s core (I wouldn’t want to if I could), I said we were giving flexibility and ownership back to the players. This flexibility will allow people more choices, hence more say and that leads to better development for all of us.

Secondly the game is just cool as shit. The robots and mechs are all aptly named after crypto darlings, so you can pummel with a Verge Wraith/ Nano bot army or go hard in the paint with a Ripple Rocket Tank. ? In the last couple of weeks alone I have seen the addition of a full market, nuke crafting (yeah nukes are pretty badass), wacky cosmetic items, and an almost-ready-to-unveil Centurion/ hero component (they deserve their own post). It is not a cookie cutter app game by any means. The devs are all avid gamers who play this daily and keep grinding towards that golden balance of fascinating gameplay, streamlined user experience and story immersion worthy of continued excitement.

Lastly, speaking of story ( here I’d like to request a quick “ladies is pimps too, go on brush your shoulder off”): the co-created fiction is inventive, funny (dare I say hilarious) and teeming with existential and futuristic discussions. This narrative unfolds semi-linearly throughout emails, gameplay and community engagement.

Like I previously stated: Lasers, robots, hive consciousness, space wars and rainbow generators (wait what?) are probably not your cup of tea. But for those who may be interested in a cuppa of all that, LaserChain is an inspired, groundbreaking project with equal parts grit and guff. I feel that it will both move us forward as an industry and captivate us individually.
