Curiosities of the Internet #1: Sonic Dreams Collection
Greetings, internet fellows! Starting today, I'll do my best to "enlighten"you about some of the most interesting happening that you may or may not have heard about. And the best thing we can get started with is a videogame... But not just any videogame.
You see, most horror videogames today aren't actually scary, maybe it's because we've been exposed to so much gore, sex and violence at such high quality nowdays that we don't care about it that much anymore (except for a loud offended minority), maybe it has something to do with the world's access to everything, the more you know the less impressionable you are, or maybe it's because this is a genre that either succeeds with flying colors or flops really hard. Whatever the case is, when a game does actually feels your mind with dread it comes usually as finely crafted masterpiece.
Today's example not only is unsettling, it is one on the strangest, if not the weirdest, games that came out on 2015, it is known as Sonic Dreams Collection.
This unusual piece of software was developed by the indie studio Arcane Kids, which is also known for other particularly strange games (more on those on another time). This free games poses as a compilation of unreleased Sonic games meant to be published for the Dreamcast. In theory, it has everything any creative Sonic fan wishes for: an Original Sonic Character Creator, a Movie Making Software were you can film your own custom Sonic character, it even has a Sonic MMORPG prototype!
The catch? Everything on it, in some way or another, is absolutely horrific.
The only way you can get an idea of what does it feel to go through this game is to play it. To summarize, it contains allusions to common internet paraphilias mixed with an increasingly disturbing atmosphere that does nothing but warp further and further the more you play it. It also has a lot of hidden content all over the place. If you feel like uncovering the mysteries of one of the strangest things the internet crossed, this is certainly for you.
