TEST of Far Cry Primal PC: The most beautiful prehistory on PC?
After showing the tip of his muzzle wet and hairy on consoles, it is the turn of the PC to host Far Cry Primal. Affected by an aging graphics engine (Duna Engine), the PC version is she really bluffing compared to her little sister console where changes are counted only on the fingers of one hand? Let's see all this in detail

To begin, as always, let's go for a walk on the side of the available graphics options, which are quite numerous and that can set the sauce to the settings to be able to rotate the game according to its configuration and according to his preferences.
Big, classic, always with this awful kinetic blur that almost nausea to some players, as is the case since Far Cry 2. The option that comes out a little bit is the volumetric fog that offers a beautiful rendering (greedy) especially above the water when it goes through a fall. For the rest, on a GTX Titan and 16 GB of Ram , obviously it turns the thunder in Ultra, but no fear: after having tested so conscientiously at home with a PC with a GTX970 and 8 GB of RAM, the game also turns naked without ever going below the 55 FPS (FRAPS in support).
For Far Cry Primal, we are therefore entitled to 5 levels of different details: Minimum, Medium, High, Very High and Ultra. Interesting thing and more and more common at the moment (as for Rising Of the Tomb Raider): even in the medium game is beautiful. Where the differences are glaring is at the level of vegetation, which is sometimes really naughty close to low levels (Minimum and Medium). Let's go straight into the heart of the matter to see what it all looks like...
Minimum:
Way:
High:
Very high :
Ultra:
Where we see that the graphics engine is getting older, it is at the level of textures, even ultra is sometimes rude, see very rude. Here is a stupid example in front of a rock to take cover:
Even if the graphics are not essential to get your foot on a game, you could expect a little more from the Far Cry license . Especially since it is not an isolated case, frequently when we pass in front of a rock wall or a tree stump, we notice this slobbering effect. For the rest, it's the same as the console version. Among the main differences, the display distance and the effects of lights. Otherwise, it's useless to expect a completely different game graphically from the PS4 / Xbox One version. It's kif-kif, fortunately, the keyboard and the mouse are there to remind us of what machine we are.
If you are experiencing performance issues, you should disable Motion Blur, Disable / Lower Volumetric Fog, and disable/lower the PostFX first.
Below, the original test of the Xbox One version, redesigned on the occasion of this PC release
Takkar was hunting with his crew. A small mammoth, to stretch your legs and fill your belly before dark. It should have been a fast-paced affair. But a naughty saber-toothed tiger like a louse and quite angry had had the urge to kill human beings at that time. Everyone went there except Takkar. It was dirty. Shocking. And the hero, in pieces, having to flee with a sacred mission in mind: to go to the Land of Oros, find the members of the Wenja tribe scattered to bring them to a point where they can finally prosper. But there is a bone: other clans, Udam and Izila, who consider the Wenja as fragile, have the intention to crush them. What if Takkar took the lead?
I have the conquest that sticks
Far Cry is eaten 10,000 years in the teeth and sends the player in a trip way The Fire War. This forces the series, and we will not complain, to review a bit its global approach. We reassure you: the bases, solid and efficient, remain. It is always about action and discretion in subjective view. It is always a question of freely exploring an open world, of conquering the whole of an inhospitable region, the outlines of which will reveal themselves as we release the outposts controlled by handfuls of savages - without escalation of a communication tower. Obviously.
There is always a question of dealing with a fauna that is not made only of peaceful, defenseless herbivores. Finally, there is always the question of accomplishing different missions between bloody battles and infiltration, to seduce potential allies and to reinforce his skills and his logistical means. Means necessarily distant from the contemporary habits of the preceding parts. Forget the money, guns, flamethrowers, ultralights, red barrels that fart at the slightest spark, cars, jet skis and even hang gliders. Place to the somewhat stiff sagaies, silent but feeble bows, clumsy clubs, fronds and some anachronistic fantasies.
Baby, you can drive Takkar
The Pays d'Oros is full of treasures. The first of them: his environments. The discovery of green valleys, forests with dense and high grasslands, rivers, falls and delightful lakes, rocky areas, cooler or more arid according to the latitude and the semblances of places of life is done with stars in the eyes. Especially when you find yourself between dog and wolf or the sun or the moon lets their light filter through the trees or on the surface of the water. And depending on the location, the colors offer a spectacle that often makes you want to ask a few moments and contemplate, forgetting the job. The engine may date, the result is no less sumptuous.
The animals, many and varied (goats, deer, bears, woolly rhinos, yaks, badgers, wolves, deer, mammoths, and tapirs preferring the night) have benefited from the same treatment, both in terms of rendering and entertainment. As for humans, the accouterments make up a lot of generic models and gestures not always well assured. Ambience question, it's faultless. First of all, in order to heal the immersion during your encounters with bipeds endowed with speech, the teams have opted for a specific language (an adaptation of the proto-Indo-European headed by two linguists). In fact, subtitles for everyone. Not too small, no worries. Finally, squeals, distant howls, and various grunts quickly wake up your senses. And set the tone on how to moving forward. Better to avoid playing Juan Manuel Fangio (especially in the dark, even if some critters - not all - will flee the torches). Stealth, enjoy the vegetation in the skin of a hunter, it's good. Especially at the beginning.
Tribal I like
It's starting to literally start naked. It will therefore have to be full of resources. Plants, trees, rocks and clays, meat and of course skins of animals will come to your rescue so that you can get out of the crouching position almost obligatory if you want a progression without bad meeting and the possibility of not scaring game or attracting a predator to your little hairy buttocks. The first weapons will emerge, but not very effective or resistant, even if it is enough to smash or pierce skulls.
To gain in strength, it will be necessary to make specific companions. They will have to be recruited, forcing you to perform perilous missions (or hallucinate Far Cry forces) in order to gain their trust. But thanks to them, you will be able to access new skills, experience helps You can physically strengthen yourself, facilitate picking, combat skills or the use of traps and bombs (yes, bombs, know that there is also a grappling hook for specific places and that we can identify with a GPS ...), fine-tune your hunter vision that highlights yellow or red elements like The Witcher III and Taming. All this to vary approaches to enemies or big bugs.
Animal, animal
Among the novelties of this Far Cry Primal , the link of the protagonist with some dangerous species that can improve in the blink of an eye. Where Kevin Costner takes months to buddy with a wolf, Takkar launches a bait and, depending on his degree of affinity (which depends on hard work and one of the skill trees), can approaching squatting and taming canines, cougars, bears, tigers and so on, Chris Pratt way, hands forward. Here he is with a hairy companion who can obey him and attack a designated target - to die too, but fortunately, resuscitation is possible. And, in the case of the most robust, scare some packs and serve as a mount.
A small devastation operation on the back of a mammoth or saber-toothed tiger does it. Except that, for guarded outposts, it can quickly turn sour, reinforcements often mean death. This is where your infiltration capabilities can intervene, knowing that humans have varying reaction times, or other devices such as the famous bombs mentioned above (bee or poison, which make enrage victims) ) or your owl. The sniper and binoculars are not relevant, you will indeed have a raptor able to identify and mark the enemies. Later, he will even drop bombs and make deadly dives. Ouch.
Legalize the Wenja
And we have not told you, but all the material picked up will serve as much to make the bulk of your inventory as building the top of the top huts for your "lieutenants". At each level of extra comfort for your cave or buildings, additional bonuses emerge. And small personal quests, sometimes touching, sometimes very, very funny, arise. Even if we would have liked contacts that are not limited to cutscenes, we really appreciate some of these atypical figures and sometimes covering you nicknames not glorious, but that lend to smile.
This small village life helps to make the progress always more pleasant, and simpler. From some levels, the benefits will be significant, including resources that pop daily near campfires and rapid travel points. And as much as you say, to reach the maximum of inhabitants, as to stuff all the missions sown across the map and find all the items to collect, we will have to prepare the thermos and not watch his watch, the map is showing more provided.
To be free
A map full of activities and objects to craft, certainly. But on the length, what gives? One thing is certain: the first ten hours take place in joy and joy. Instinctive handling, well designed interface with shortcuts to weapons, animals and good care, the pleasure of discovery, rise in power ... everything rolls. We forgive the few problems of AI, not always very alert when the headshots rain or by the stiffness of some clinch.
But it is true that once acquired certain capacities, and disarmed by a sufficiently grotesque frame, without real rebound, surprise thunderous, or remarkable antagonist, one agrees that a certain routine settles down. And even if we continue without really sulking his pleasure, the same random phases of prisoner delivery, assault on an outpost, tracking a little longuette, escort, recovery of various artifacts, defense a strong place, without rebounding, it can use. So that, except if you are really carried by the atmosphere to the point of being struck by an acute collection (and there is what is needed, really), we may not find much interest in dig deeper after completing the main quest - allow 15 to 20 hours max. OF Far Cry 4, which would have had its place here, having been thrown to the nettles. Still a good experience anyway, raw, violent and exotic, but we would have liked more fierce.
This PC version is good, but may disappoint in some aspects. Textures as slobbery, even in ultra, this is clearly not what is expected of a Far Cry . The rest in itself is very close to the PS4 and Xbox One versions, apart from the display distance and the beautiful light effects. What is appreciable is that once again, even in "Middle" the game is very honorable and allow the smaller configurations to enjoy prehistory as it should.

* The Stone Age, it changes. | * even if it purrs fast enough and it lacks surprises level tasks to accomplish. |
* A realization in the hair. | * A scenario almost nonexistent and big bad little charismatic. |
* An atmosphere of the neatest. | * The Artificial intelligence of humans often too robotic. |
* Some nice characters. | * The lack of cooperation. |
* The rise of the hero and the village. | * Blurry and muddy textures with some decorations |
* The multiple possible approaches for conquering an enemy outpost.
* The animals to tame and ride.
* Great freedom in a gigantic playground, full of life and filled with things to do or collect..
* A nice viewing distance |
