WHAT LESSONS CAN WE DERIVE FROM NOKIA 3310'S GAME - SPACE IMPACT?

Over the years of living an observatory life and yet, I have been lucky, maybe favoured, to try and therefore observe almost anything tangibly. I would not want to know if it is little or much, big or small, common or uncommon, famous or not. At times these things I reflect on are things which had been used or things I had done in the past for the sake of doing and nothing more. Then I would try and r͟e͟f͟l͟e͟c͟t͟ on these things in order to learn from their forms, their processes, their makings or their results. In this wise, what I have reflected on is a game which came on one of the earliest mobile devices, Nᴏᴋɪᴀ 3310 in Nigeria called sᴘᴀᴄᴇ ɪᴍᴘᴀᴄᴛ.

What is the game, sᴘᴀᴄᴇ ɪᴍᴘᴀᴄᴛ?

In accordance to what is relatively documented on Wikipedia it first appeared on the Nokia 3310 in 2000 and it later came with other devices too, including Nokia 3410 , 5510 and

  1. The Nokia 3310's WAP enhanced versions (3330 and 3350) and the Nokia 3410 versions gave the possibility to download extra Space Impact chapters via the phone's WAP connection (the service called Nokia Club).
    A Space Impact-themed Xpress-on cover was released for devices including Nokia 3410. More so, the gameplay of Sᴘᴀᴄᴇ Iᴍᴘᴀᴄᴛ is a shoot 'em up game and the player has the ability to freely move horizontally and vertically (with a few exceptions on some platform-like levels in Space Impact+) but cannot increase the speed of the screen's auto-scrolling feature. The player can collect power-ups throughout the levels, which award extra lives or special weapons.

This is one low graphical game which people of my age mate then would burn the whole battery down from 100% to 0% playing trying to ace through the minnows or the little battleships to get to the main antagonists, "the bosses" as we popularly used to call them then and then move to the next level(s). I need us to take a pause and note what almost all of us had in common playing this little game.

• We had it in common the will to do whatever it takes to get the 3310 no matter where it is hidden in the house by our elder sisters, brothers, mothers or fathers who originally own this phone but do not play the game

• We had it in common we would even lie we want to check or do one thing or the other on the phone just to have access to it and we would not give up till we are given the phone

• We had it in common we at times snuck into the room late in the night when our fathers for instance had gone to bed sleeping and gently pick this phone up and continue to play it in the same wee hour just to finish the level(s)

• We had it in common we would be caught using it, burning up so hot and we would be chided but that would not stop us from doing the same thing again because we need to finish the level(s)

• We had it in common we would be playing the same game while the phone is plugged charging (which is unhealthy though but we would not mind)

• We had it in common the first time we played it we got blown off the sky or hit the rocks but we kept coming over and over and we kept becoming better the more we try/fail till we are conquerors

• We all had it in common we were restricted in movement (as to the joy-pad) to move just horizontally and vertically but we yet finished all the levels or at least killed some "bosses".

• We all had it in common to have been gunned down beyond we could count by the small battleships before reaching the main oppugnants right? Many of us were gunned down by the main antagonist more than we would ever count, I lost count

• Many of us tried had just with one life left to kill the main villain whilst some got there with 4 'lifes' - "♥♥♥♥" and lost everything to the main villain but yet still restarted the game till being victorious.

If I am right, mostly, on the above listed, these things we did with this game when we were younger, maybe, is simply time consuming, heroic, full of determination, zeal demanding, passion determining, commitment sapping, of force , of positive energy, of incredible might at will, in need of good psyche, in need of forbearance and so forth.

Today, these could be reawaken in us yet that we are all older. The same us of then saw us into the same persons we are today yes? The same attitudes or factors could be channelled out from their respite states at or as our dreams in order to achieve in ‌🇷‌🇪‌🇦‌🇱‌🇮‌🇹‌🇾. Just as we have the small battleships so do we have different minute issues coming our ways on our ways up to become our better selves in the societies. There are bigger issues, physically, spiritually, mentally, economically and the likes facing us so determined like the "bosses" in the sᴘᴀᴄᴇ ɪᴍᴘᴀᴄᴛ yes? But because they are there, implies they can be conquered. If and only if, we could do as we used to with sᴘᴀᴄᴇ ɪᴍᴘᴀᴄᴛ. Then, with the game, such as it; BOUNCE, SNAKE, TETRIS and so forth, I believed and I believe you believed, could be conquered trying again, again and again. But note, at times, we would rest our thumbs and restrategise and restart and then win. At times, it takes knowing when to retreat (for the main time) and doing so, in other to win both the battles and the wars of life eventually.

In sum, ɴᴏᴛʜɪɴɢ, ᴇᴠᴇʀ sᴀɪᴅ ɪs ɪᴍᴘᴏssɪʙʟᴇ ɪs ɪᴍᴘᴏssɪʙʟᴇ. Believe in your self-worth, your sombidiness, surge ahead even though there is fear there and success will always come somehow at a point. This is the secrete of true heroes, true jinx breakers, true champions, true millionaires, billionaires or zillionaires.
