The Road to Alexandria

On your trek to Alexandria you pass through the settlement of Yamu. An old friend of yours, Menehet, lives in the opulent Temple of Sekhmet. Sekhmet is the Egyptian warrior goddess of healing and protector of the Pharaohs. Legend reveals it was her breath that formed the desert itself. You learn since last you spoke, Menehet, your old friend has become second in command at the temple behind only the High Priest. You cannot resist but to take the temple tour when he offers it. After the tour you make an offering to Sekhmet that she will protect you going forward. Best not anger the old gods. Before you set off Menehet’s children greet you. They so adore you they call you uncle Bayek. You adore them back but seeing them only strengthens your resolve to avenge your son.

Alexandria is a sprawling port city on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Home to beautifully sculpted temples, museums and the largest library known to man. It serves as the capital city to all of Egypt and is one of the largest and most prosperous cities in all the world. It is also home to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Pharos otherwise known as the great lighthouse or the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Founded by Alexander the Great this great city has been the focal point and seat of power for many dynasties. When you arrive in Alexandria you proceed to the Ancient Library. It is the most significant library in the ancient world and was dedicated to the Muses, or nine goddesses of the arts. Nearly every famous thinker of the age has studied at the library at some point in their lives.

Aya the Blade

Inside the Library you are approached by a robed man who introduces himself as Phanos cousin to your wife Aya. He explains that Aya is in hiding and cannot come to meet you. It appears the Phylakitai of Alexandria, Gennadios, hunts for her. He is one of Ptolemy ‘s Phylakes, elite soldiers of the Pharaohs army, and he is ravaging the city looking for her. With haste Phanos escorts you to a garden well hidden inside a secure structure. In the well he tells you is a hideaway where Aya awaits. With a leap of faith, you plunge into the well. Deep beneath the city you find yourself in a cavern leading to a large underground chamber. As you enter the chamber someone runs up from behind and leaps towards you. It’s Aya, your beautiful wife Aya. She wraps her legs tight around you and kisses you passionately. It’s been months since you’ve seen each other and you’ve longed for her every single day.

You tell her the Heron and the Ibis are dead. You show her the orb and tell her how you bludgeoned Medunaun with it. She sighs and says she hates you have to do these things but is grateful you did. Then she tells you she herself has killed. She hunted down Actaeon the Vulture. After forcing him to where his mask she stuck her blade through the eye slits. You can see darkness clouding her face. You try to comfort her but she pushes your hand away. She continues to tell you how she was careless and another of the masked men tracked her to her home. That one was even more difficult she laments. You clasp her by the head and look deep into her eyes as if to peer at her very soul. We have one more you tell her. And then we will be done.

The Snake

Later that evening Aya explains how she’s been working with Apollodorus, loyal servant to Cleopatra. Together they’ve been investigating the Order of the Ancients. His network of spies and informants has given them a lead on the true identity of the Snake, he’s someone in the court of Ptolemy. Cleopatra you ask? She has been declared a criminal. Aya chuckles, by a treacherous brother yes. She plans to take back the throne and wants the Snake dead as much as we do she continues. Aya then shows you an ancient hidden blade given to her by Cleopatra. It was once used to kill the tyrant Xerses and now she wishes for it to be used anew. With the hidden blade in hand you infiltrate the palace to discover whom among the Pharaohs closest advisers uses the seal of the Snake.

While searching the Royal Scribes office you discover a chest with a false bottom. Inside you find a letter addressed to the Ibis stating the Pharaoh remains compliant and is a puppet in all things. The letter also warns that someone is killing their members and suggests the Ibis remain cautious in Siwa. The letter is stamped with the seal of the Snake which can only mean one thing. Eudoros, the Pharaoh’s Royal Scribe is the Snake. After learning Eudoros frequents the local baths you infiltrate the bathhouse and stalk your prey. You find him alone in one of the bathing pools and you pounce. He puts up a fight and gains the upper hand until you activate the hidden blade and slit his throat. His body limps into the pool but the hidden blade cost you a finger. An obvious design flaw but what’s done is done.

The Exiled Queen

With the Snake dispatched you seek out Aya’s new friend Apollodorus and although she’s vouched for you, he does not trust you. For that you must prove your worth. He asks you to rescue one of his allies and retrieve information about a scroll of great importance. After rescuing the captive man, he informs you the scroll is located on a sunken ship just off the coast. You collect the scroll and return to Apollodorus. He tells you the scroll is destined for the Roman General Pompey. It is part of an effort to influence the General to swear Rome’s allegiance to Cleopatra and to oppose her brother Ptolemy. He tells you the queen will be most grateful for keeping its contents a secret. Now that you have earned his trust he asks you to follow him to his estate where Cleopatra has been hiding.

When meeting the queen, Apollodorus advises you to bend a knee in deference and speak only in reply, speak clearly and do not meet her gaze. You’ve heard tales of Cleopatra but when you see her you are struck by her elegance, overt beauty and delicate charm. Her entourage seem of little import. They are drunk, loud and obnoxious. But Cleopatra is something altogether different. She catches you off guard when she propositions you sexually. Embarrassed you fumble for words before apologizing. You tell her you have already pledged your life to someone else. As Aya walks over to you, Cleopatra smiles coyly and tells her she approves of her choice. With the pleasantries over Apollodorus directs you to the queen’s private chambers.

The Order of the Ancients

Cleopatra explains the Order of Ancients is responsible for her exile and for tearing her from the throne. They saw her brother Ptolemy as weak and easier to control. The civil war and strife in Egypt is their doing as they seek complete dominion over the lands. You assure her the Order have all been dispatched but Apollodorus explains the Snake has many heads and things are never so simple. You tell him the Snake is dead but he tells you the Snake is the Order itself and there are still many heads that survive. Cleopatra tells you she has informants spread across all the regions of Egypt and still they haven’t been able to touch the Order. They exist hidden among the populace. Shadowy figures that pluck the strings and make puppets of us all.

In the Nile delta the endless sands swallow up whole villages yet a malignant human force moves with them that force is one of the Order of Ancients the Scarab. In sacred Giza a shadowy figure known only as the Hyena controls all that occurs. What is certain is Giza is the land of death and loss. And then there is Memphis where the one known as the Lizard has worked a diabolical power. Cleopatra warns that when the Order wants something as in Siwa they will crush all that stand in their way. She tells you it’s time for action. You are hesitant but Aya reminds you that you have still not found the man who killed your son. Cleopatra asks you to serve as her Medjay, protector of the true ruler of Egypt. And you accept.

very reality the game amazing

Ya Ubisoft has been doing amazing work with their open world level design. Between this, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and the Far Cry games I'd say they make some of the nicest environments of this generation.
