GFX Shortage Seems To Be Improving

They Have Stock

I visited the local MicroCenter the other day to pick up a seemingly rare RX580. Their website inventory showed that they had 6 in stock, down from 10+ the day before and prices down from their near double MSRP from just a few weeks ago.

Tighter Control

I scanned the GFX aisle looking for the RSX580, but could not find it. They only had GFX cards from RX560 and below along with the GTX 1050s and below. I jumped on the phone and did a quick check of their site again to make sure they somehow didn't manage to sell out everything before I showed up. Nope, still in stock.

One of the CSRs came by and helpfully asked if I needed help. I asked if they had and RX580s in stock asked why the empty shelves. He explained to me that they were keeping the higher end cards off the main shelves to limit individuals. Customers are only allowed to purchase one GFX per month. Before this policy was set in place, individuals would stock their inventory daily and come in to buy out all the units in one transaction. Though there are still ways around it, like having people to buy it for them, it definitely slowed down their abilities to acquire them fast enough before others can. Rejoice!

So for those looking to build a new gaming rig, hang in there. Retailers do appear to be practicing some restraint and limiting units per customer. Price have cooled off and are

Got alerts yesterday that B&H had Asus Turbo 1070s for $699. They were $429 two months ago. Shortage might be improving, but prices are still out of whack.

Yeah, they're still up there, but are definitely starting to come down.
