Is The Final Fantasy 7 Remake In Trouble!?......................

Final Fantasy is a game franchise that is beloved by many people all over the world, and for a lot of those people their favorite installment in the series is Final Fantasy 7. When I was young, and didn't have much experience playing RPGs, my first encounter with them was indeed FF7. I had never seen anything quite like it before, and I was completely immersed in this game world, scouring every corner of the map, trying to finish every single thing the game had to offer. This sparked my love for RPGs that still holds strong, and it's all thanks to Square for making such an incredible game, that is still relevant even today.

Since myself, and countless others all around the world, hold this game in such high regard, I was totally blown away, when at E3 of 2015, Sony announced that a remake of our beloved classic was in the works. Not just a remaster, but a complete remake from the ground up. After seeing this I became extremely hyped, and couldn't wait for more information about the project, but also cautiously optimistic, because Square can sometimes take a very long time to develop their games. Just look at Final Fantasy 15, that was in development for 10 years.

Here we are now years after the initial announcement at E3 2015, and we have no new information or updates to speak of. I thought by now we would probably have the first installment released, but instead there's nothing but silence from Square Enix. That doesn't exactly bode well for this project, and to make matters even worse, now we're getting reports of development problems, that could have set the team back to square one. Recently there was an article written by someone named, Dan Tsukasa, who apparently has inside information about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, that states all of the work that has been done up to this point has been completely scrapped and thrown out.

Square Enix hired a company called CyberConnect 2, to help them speed up the process by developing major chunks of the game. For years CyberConnect 2 has been working on this remake, but recent reports by Dan Tsukasa have now told us that everything they have done up to this point has been scrapped, due to the fact that it just wasn't up to the standers that Square Enix wants the game to be at. If this is true, that would mean development of the game is starting all over again, and we probably wont be seeing this Remake anytime in the near future, which is a hard pill to swallow for people like me who so badly want to play this.

The only silver lining to this whole story, is that nothing has been confirmed or denied by Square Enix, and sometimes rumors on the internet are just that, Rumors. It's difficult to know at this point what is really going on behind the scenes, but I definitely thought we would of had some kind of official update on the game by now, that's why this story does hold water to some degree. I sincerely hope that this isn't true, because the devoted fans of the series shouldn't have to wait a decade to play something, just because the developers announced the project too early.

With E3 2018 right around the corner, hopefully we will get some kind of update or announcement about this game. It could very well disprove all of these rumors, and reassure us that the project has been making significant progress, or it could confirm our worst fears, that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is going down the same path as Final Fantasy 15. It still baffles me that developers, especially Square Enix, who have been making games for decades, can have so much difficulty making a new title. You would think at this point they would have the creative process down to a science, and would be able to churn out new releases every couple of years. I don't know though, I'm still cautiously optimistic that we will get something tangible at E3 2018 that will reassure us, but with Square Enix who really knows. What do you think about all this, do you believe the reports that the game is in trouble, or do you think it's all just a bunch of nonsense? Feel free to let me know down below in the comments, and have a great day.

Thank you for checking out my latest gaming news report, I hope you enjoyed it!

Sort:

Square has absolutely no idea why fans love ff7 to this day. They have no chance of recapturing it, and the last 15 years or so of releases prove they can no longer make good games.

The reality is 90s square was a very different group of developers working for different goals under different circumstances. Seriously brilliant men like Yoshinori Kitase were given directorial roles over staffs of talented individuals.

Squaresoft is dead, if it weren't for enix it would no longer exist as a company. The development cycle for ff15 was as bad as it gets, and it resulted in a pretty awful experience that consumers are still eagerly being fed in bite sized bits.

If you expect anything other than a continuation of this trend you'll be even more let down.

We'll see in 5-7 years, I'd love to be wrong.

Edit: Also, they're more than a game development cycle from the original announcement, have nothing to show but tech demos, yet they knew back then that what they were making would definitely only work as a trilogy release. Fuck off, Square fucking sucks. I'm surprised you cant opt in to paid alphas.

I really can't disagree with you there, but I still hope they pull this off somehow.

Are those screenshots previews of the new FF7?

They are screenshots of a trailer for the game, that was shown at an expo event. But now there are rumors that it's all been scrapped, meaning Square has to start all over again. Hopefully that's not true though, we'll see.

Damn. I've never played FF7, but those screenshots look incredible.
