SEGA recently released its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31. After a period of difficulty, the Japanese publisher had this time to rejoice thanks to results both in the green and significantly superior to those of the previous year.

But that's not all. In the press release accompanying the results announcement, SEGA also discussed the current state of the video game market. Contrary to what might be believed in view of the current situation, and considering SEGA's past efforts in the development of mobile gaming and dematerialized gaming, the Japanese company expects accelerated sales of box games:

"As for the boxed video game market, expectations are rising for future market expansion. The latter would be due to the penetration of next generation hardware, which will be added to the current generation of game consoles already on the market. In Europe, the United States and Asia, large markets have developed for PC games."

As an individual, SEGA expects its current fiscal year to see a further increase in box office sales (expected to increase from 10.28 to 11.6 million games sold).

This great news for us gamers

This will probably end up being a collection of the 50 or so games they have available on Steam and Gamersgate and other digital stores and have had available for most platforms over the years.

I hope it is new games in some of those series but it seems that won't happen unless it is Sonic.

I will reserve being happy when I see a new Shining Force, Streets of Rage, Dynamite Duke, etc released.
