Personal Review Of Playerunknown's Battleground

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

What's up guys. I started playing Playerunknown's Battlegrounds (hereon PUBG) not so long ago and here's my personal take on the highly successful game. Yeah, it has a super low rating on Steam, yet it's like the most purchased game on Steam! Almost mistakenly wrote that as Steem...

What is PUBG?

Think of it as a huge battle arena (like a big portion of an island on Grand Theft Auto) and all of the players will come from the sky. We show up on the plane (100 of us) and we can either play solo / duo / team of 4. Tactically, we choose the best landing spot. Some love to go to the big city as there are plenty of loots, but with many competitors, you could die at the start.

Some prefer to go to the smaller towns and risk the loot but you may survive longer in the game. For those of us who love smaller towns, we'll probably go from town to town hunting for better gear. The aim is to be the last man standing in the game, or the last team standing. After 5 minutes, a location on the map will be highlighted and all of the players have to be there within a certain time. The circle becomes smaller and those outside of the circle will get hurt by the electric force field and eventually die.

Hence, PUBG is harder than it looks. You're basically required to:

  • Get good loot, preferably a SCAR-H with a scope of 2x / 4x / 8x. An alternative would be getting a sniper rifle. All of these long range weapons will basically help you to win the game, as you can aim from super far. Apart from weapons, you need a backpack to store more items, healing items like first aid kit and bandages, police vest, a good helmet to prevent one hit kills and so on. There are many different loots in the game that will either make or break you.

  • Choose a good spot and avoid getting killed even before you start looting. Sometimes you land in an area that is packed with people and you may get punched to death even before you start! Yes, punched to death. Your spot may also be pretty far from the designated circle that appears after awhile. For e.g. you may be at the bottom of the map and the circle appears at the top. You need to time yourself and go to the location before you get killed by the electric sphere. All of this takes skill (and luck). Some places have vehicles, so use them wisely. Vehicles have a certain amount of gas as well and you may run out of it. You can loot gas tanks though, and refill your diesel or petrol.

  • Know how to move and hide. Running in the open field leaves you vulnerable and snipers can easily kill you from afar, without you knowing where you got hit from! That is why I love to hide in the hills or near bushes or between trees, to be safer. Using vehicles creates a lot of noise as well and you may want to avoid vehicles when you're nearing the end. It lets others know where you are and probably kill you while you're driving.

  • Get good teammates! Okay you can't choose them unless you have real life friends playing PUBG. If you watched one of my livestreams, my teammate actually shot and killed me lol. Talk about friendly fire. Some even drag you to die with them, by not monitoring the map and getting killed by the electric sphere. Why not play solo then? It gets boring and you feel lonely if you're always solo-ing. It's fun to have allies.

What kind of loots can you find on PUBG?

Weapons

  • Shotguns are pretty common with different variants
  • Assault rifles like M416, AKM, SCAR-H. SCAR-H is the most popular one but not as common. It has less recoil which is good for long-range attacks.
  • Sniper rifles are pretty uncommon.
  • Pistols are everywhere.
  • Melee weapons like machete
  • Grenades like frag grenade, smoke grenades, etc.

Armor

  • Police vest level 1 - 3
  • Helmet level 1 - 3
  • Other items that don't increase your stats

Backpack

  • There are three levels of backpack with a different carrying capacity

Types of vehicles

  • There are a couple of different land vehicles, like motorcycles, motorcycles with passenger side, jeeps, vans, and military jeeps.
  • You can use boats as well but they have limited use since most places are land instead of sea.

Advantages and disadvantages of dropzones

  • Big town. Clearly and abundance of all types of loots and you will probably find what you need to succeed in the match, including a good scope, good rifle and other accessories. Big disadvantage is you'll probably die in the beginning since there are so many competing for the same items. Your shooting skills come into point.

  • Small town. Lack of loots and if you're lucky, you'll still find what you need. The main advantage is you'll probably survive. There may be 1 or 2 stray competitors around and if you kill them, you will survive for awhile longer.

  • Islands across the sea. Most of the time you'll be alone and it's similar to landing on small towns. Negative is sometimes you can't find a damn boat! And you'll probably die while you're swimming to the other side (from the electric, not by drowning).

Personal take on PUBG

As far as FPS games go, PUBG is a pretty addictive game to play because it features a huge number of players and if you have friends with you, even better. It's quite funny or tragic sometimes, the way you die that is. I accidentally ran over my teammate once with my car... and he died...

My biggest complaint is perhaps the game is pretty buggy. Sometimes your shots don't land on your enemy. It's different from CS:GO and Call of Duty in the sense that the latter games are more accurate. On PUBG, it's not surprising if you shot him directly and somehow the bullet missed! It can be annoying for a lot of FPS professional gamers, but it's still entertaining.

The whole concept of parashooting down and getting loots that might either win or lose you the game is pretty entertaining. It has a lot of luck element to it, but if you and your opponent have equally good weapons, it boils down to skills. Both shooting skills and how to avoid detection knowing that the circle gets smaller as time goes.

In a nutshell

If you're quite anal about gunshots not hitting the target or anything related to it, then probably PUBG won't be the top game on your list. If you just want to have fun and ignore the bugginess of the game, then you'll definitely enjoy playing it.

PUBG tips and tricks:

  • The frying pan melee weapon actually blocks bullets - will literally save your ass - or head when you have it equipped.
  • Military-looking locations are full of better weapons and armor, but are generally pretty popular.
  • Shotguns are useless without a choke.
  • Vehicles are bullet magnets - drive a car and people come out of hiding to shoot at you.
  • Great directional audio wins this game - get the best headphones, crank up the audio to 70% so you can hear footsteps and get the drop on people around you.
  • Keep way ahead of the blue circle - death by electric fields is super disappointing when you've been working to stay alive for 10 minutes.
  • Have fun, don't be disappointed. Literally 99 players in each round will lose, but if you get a couple of kills and make it to top 10, give yourself a pat on the back and give yourself a chicken dinner.

Awesome tips. Didn't know the frying pan can block bullets

I have been playing on and off here with a couple of buddies who do Twitch.
I'm a bit bothered by the physics of the accuracy of shots as you know you got a solid hit but no damage.
We just attribute it to a richocet from a frying pan lol
But yeah good to not take it seriously and just enjoy.

Definitely can't take it seriously haha

I sometimes get nervous because the weapons don't hit the target and because there are many bugs. However, it is a funny game and I hope that there will be bug correction in the future, since it is still an early access game and almost everyone is playing it!

By the way, frying pan is my favourite! ;)

You forgot to mention the air drop that spawns 1 time per zone and that contains the best weapons.

its good to know what you think about the game, might try it out

nice to see your take on this. hope to see more reviews!!

I found it fascinating how a game, as buggy as this, managed to become a world-wide phenomenon while still in early access stage. I guess the concept really made the difference here.
Good review mate, upvoted :)

Yea it must have been the concept of the game. Since the accuracy is shit anyway..
