What is Rust?

Rust is a first person survival game based around the multiplayer aspect in post apocalyptic environment with resources scattered around randomly. It is a multiplayer survival experience like no other which incorporates many different survival elements that of a normal zombie or another kind of survive and thrive game. It is great fun with friends, but it is also taxing on your system which means that you can't quite run it on whatever you have lying around. A large portion of the game is based on gathering loot from many different spots on the certain map to be able to survive in the wild and against other players. Playing with friends, however, increases the chances you have of surviving dramatically.

My experience

Since I have not played the game for extensive amounts of time I can not say that I know all there is to know about the game. But I've spent many hours admiring YouTube content associated with it. I think the game seems very interesting and I'd surely like to try it some day. From what I have seen the game has had some tough times due to it being made on a pre-built game engine called Unity. There has been a lot of hate towards Rust for it feeling unfinished when it was first released on Steam. Not too long ago it got a graphical and gameplay oriented update and has since been changed dramatically for a much better over all playing experience.

What others think of the game?

As I already mentioned in the previous segment at the time of release on Steam it didn't receive any love. But slowly people started to admire its gameplay and multiplayer experience and were happy with how it turned out, but some people were still not quite amused by how unfinished the game felt. So soon after its release, the developers started working on improving the game and creating a newer, better, and more up to date version of the game because graphically it was really lacking compared to other games of its time. And some YouTubers have been creating content for Rust and still, time to time revisit it.

The future for the game

Recently the game has been decreasing in play rate and its player base has been dropping, so there really is very little hope for this game left as of 2017. Not saying that the game is completely dead, but it's not looking so good. After the update hit the player base started to grow for a while and then kind of fell back to where it was before because of other newer more interesting games that came out like H1Z1, Miscreated and even the free to play version Unturned. How ever these games were mostly focused on zombie survival instead of normal survival, so that makes me wonder what caused Rust to recede back into its little cave.

Conclusion

Even though this game has lost most of its relevance it is still great fun with a group of friends. And in my opinion is still the best non-zombie survival experience you can get on Steam as of July 2017. Some of you may disagree, but I'll stay true to what I stand by. Zombie survival is not for everyone, and neither is regular survival, but it will probably take 3 more years for a game with both elements to come out on Steam. Of course, let's hope that is not the case.
