Really good article :) Never played Civilization, but i played a loooot of European Universalis II, about which you can probably develop the same kind of analyzis in terms of power, war and colonialism.
Thanks! Yea there's lots in the genre. I learned that the guy who created Age of Empires knew the Civ guys too, might have worked together, can't quite remember. I'll go into more of the power, war and colonialism stuff the next time I think.
