In order to get curation rewards, you need to wait 15 minutes to get the full award. After 7.5 minutes of posting, the vote earns 50% of the reward. Most people set their auto-voter to wait 15 minutes. Some try to front-run by setting the vote to 14 minutes. You lose a tiny percentage of the reward, but you then vote before those who set the vote at 15 minutes. That will give you a bigger slice of the reward if big votes come behind your vote. Of course, the size of your vote will also affect the portion of the curation reward you get.
