Introduction:

Hey guys, I'm ggteixeira, just your average guy who enjoys playing a variety of different video games on his spare time. A week back, a friend of mine had bought me the game Overwatch, and after a week of constant playing I thought I'd put together a short game summary and review on what I think about the game. Before we continue though, I'd like to make it clear that some of what I write on this game is my opinion and what I think. It can vary from what you think, and hey, that's completely fine.

What is Overwatch?:

Overwatch at it's core is an objective-based first person shooter/brawler where the player picks from a pool containing a variety of different characters, each with a variety of different skills and abilities, to try and win the game with. Within the game is tons of great content, ranging from the different characters, the handful of maps, competitive play, and then all the new FREE content they keep adding in including new maps as well characters.

Gameplay:

After my first match in-game, I quickly found myself in love with Overwatch. The game felt crisp and smooth, the character I played, Hanzo, tons of fun, and the map design on Lunar Colony very narrow but diverse in the ways I could get around. I started to play more, tried out more characters, more maps, and at the end of every game I found that same old smile wiped across my face that was there after playing my first original match.

The game to me sort of feels like what you'd get if you took Call of Duty and League of Legends, then bashed them together mixing and forming what I'd imagine would be Overwatch. The first-person perspective along with all the fast paced action reminded me of Call of Duty while the variety of characters with their each different play-styles and abilities reminded me of League of Legends. It seems to all work really well together and gives a unique sort of fun I haven't felt in a while. The last game I played in which I had the same sort of fun in was Valve's Team Fortress, which if you think about it, is very similar to this game in a lot of ways.

Another amazing thing about Overwatch is the variety of players this game can appeal towards. Leaned back and casual players who just want to play for fun can easily fit in and have that fun in Overwatch. While for the competitive players like myself, Overwatch has it's own intense ranking system in their competitive game-mode where players can play to try and fight their way to the top of the ladder. I just even recently found out that Overwatch has it's own large pro scene for players good enough!

On a final note when it comes to Overwatch's gameplay, the game itself seems balanced along with all the map design and champions, and if anything isn't, then the Overwatch team is quickly on the case releasing frequent patches nerfing certain broken aspects of the game while buffing others.

Art-style and cosmetics:

Overwatch has a very unique fun art-style. The game isn't made to look super-realistic, and while it does hold a cartoony feel, doesn't perfectly fit in that category either. To me, it seems to be a blend of the two followed by a ton of bright eye-catching colors and great shading. Personally, Overwatch's art style kind of reminds of a standard super-hero comic.

Now, you do have to buy Overwatch and in-game like most games nowadays there are in-game purchasable crates, but what's inside are by no means game-changing and are simply cosmetic. You can also earn crates by playing the game making it so you can also obtain them and not only have to buy them. The cosmetics in-game are really fun to pursue, as unlocking them gives you the potential to change your character, making you stand out more and have your own identity while playing the game.

Review and Conclusion:

Overall, I found that Overwatch is a really fun game and breathe of fresh air from most other games I was playing. Because of that, I'd strongly suggest it towards anyone who doesn't already have it or was thinking of buying it. There's something in it for everyone.

I'd like to as always conclude this post by thanking everyone for reading and encourage them to leave a reply below. I wish you all a wonderful day and hope to one day soon see you in one of my future Overwatch matches!
