State of Play May 2019: FFVII Remake, MediEvil and More

in #gaming5 years ago

Yesterday's State of Play episode wrapped-up in just over 10 minutes and while it was short, it delivered some eagerly anticipated news. Not only did it introduce new PS4 titles, but it made a few Final Fantasy VII very happy.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

We've had quite the dry spell of Final Fantasy VII Remake news since it's announcement at E3 2015. But we got a few new glimpses of Midgar along with some familiar faces, including: Aerith, Cloud, Barrett, Jessie, Biggs and the one and only Sephiroth.

In a PlayStation blog post, FFVII Remake's Producer Yoshinori Kitase said: "Finally... the long awaited moment has come. Sorry to keep you all waiting so long!"

He then went on to say that more information on the game would be unveiled in June and today's trailer was a taste of what's to come.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

As the next expansion for Capcom's Monster Hunter:World, Iceborne will be set in the snow covered region of Hoarfrost Reach.

You can check out the latest gameplay trailer below:

Iceborne introduces new monsters to game, from Banbaro the wyvern to the horned Beotodus -- a monster who prefers to lie in wait underneath the snow for a surprise attack. But Velkhana, the Elder Dragon with an affinity for ice attacks, is sure to be an impressive hunt.

Players exploring through this expansion's wintry tundra will need to also compete with the cold by consuming Hot Drinks -- a hunter without the warmth will have their stamina sapped by the freezing conditions.

The expansion is set to be released on PS4, Xbox One on 6 September 2019. As for the PC version, it looks like PC users will need to wait until the end of the year.

Riverbond

It's always comforting to see couch co-ops get some love and in the latest State of Play, Riverbond showed off the fun of just shooting and slashing things wildly with friends. It's a game with a voxel art style and crossover skins from titles like: Bastion, Shovel Knight, and Guacamelee!

Interested in trying it out? Well, the game is set to arrive on the PlayStation Store this Winter (Southern Hemisphere).

Predator: Hunting Grounds

A title that will be arriving next year on the PS4, Predator: Hunting Grounds is an online competitive multiplayer shooter from the developers of Friday the 13th: IllFonic.

While the game's State of Play trailer didn't reveal much, the CEO of IllFonic, Charles Brungardt did reveal more details about the game in their own PlayStation blog post.

He said that gameplay would involve one group of players taking on the role of a Fireteam while one other player would become the Predator. The Fireteam's role is to carry out important missions that involve taking out bad guys and finding important items. But at the same time, the Predator will be on the hunt for them.

Brungardt went on to say: "We're massive fans of this IP, and it's made us closely examine every aspect of the game to be certain we are staying true to the world."

If the success of Friday the 13th is anything to go off of, the Predator IP is likely to be in capable hands.

MediEvil Remake

A release date has been set for the spooky remake of the PS1 title, MediEvil. The game is arriving on PS4 on the 25 October 2019, just in time for a Halloween run-through.

State of Play also offered us a new story-based trailer for the game. It tells the tale of the game's resurrected protagonist Sir Daniel Fortesque and how he is on a quest to finally defeat the evil sorcerer, Zarok.

Away: The Survival Series

The sugar glider is common animal seen by those living in Australia but in Away: The Survival Series players can BE a sugar glider.

According to the game's developers, Breaking Walls, the 3rd-person adventure is set in the distant future. The trailer shows off a world full of forests, swamps and shorelines being ravaged by natural disaster. But we also see a little marsupial traversing through this dangerous territory; battling scorpions and escaping a fiery inferno. But I must say, doesn't it all look beautiful?

After all these new announcements, what games from Sony's State of Play livestream are you most looking forward to?

Looking forward to Final Fantsy 7. I’m a bit worried that these companies will veer away from doing live shows completely in favor of these live streams though. Very disappointed Sony won’t be at E3..
