Five Years On, Where is GTA VI?

in #gaming6 years ago

Earlier this month, the hugely successful title from Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto V, surpassed five years since its release in September of 2013. With over 90 million copies of the game sold and over 6 billion dollars earned in those five years, the gaming community is still yet to hear anything about Grand Theft Auto’s sixth instalment. With Rockstar games working on other upcoming projects, when will we hear about Grand Theft Auto VI?

Five years sit between the release of Grand Theft Auto V and the release of Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008, which has left fans wondering why Rockstar Games has been so quiet on the development of the sixth instalment.

One of 2018’s most anticipated gaming titles is the highly anticipated sequel to Rockstar’s 2010 Western game, Red Dead Redemption. With this being the main priority of the development company, it is understandable that the potential development of an upcoming Grand Theft Auto title is not in the spotlight. Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled to be released on October 26.

However, even with Grand Theft Auto V being five years old, the massive success on the online multiplayer mode, aptly named Grand Theft Auto V: Online, continues to reign in over $500 million in micro-transactions alone. With Rockstar continuing to make new content for the online game-mode, Grand Theft Auto V may not have slowed enough to warrant the release of a new title to bring back players.

But even with the continuous success of Grand Theft Auto V still bringing in 25,000 players at any one time, the gaming community is left wondering when they will hear about any official development of Grand Theft Auto VI. Those hoping to finally hear an announcement at 2018’s E3 expo in June, Rockstar were still quiet on the topic.

With fans eager to relive the consequence-free agency that comes with Grand Theft Auto titles and get back to playing their crime-spree fantasy’s, it is an unfortunate reality that Grand Theft Auto VI is still years away. With Rockstar’s next project rumoured to be a sequel to the 2006 title, Bully, it seems unlikely that we will see anything official of Grand Theft Auto VI in the next few years.

Industry analyst, Michael Pachter, predicted that the game might not be seen for years to come, even being as far away as 2022.

With a growing wish-list of what fans of the series want to see in Grand Theft Auto VI and a long five years since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, fans are holding onto hope with every passing year that news will finally break about the fanatically-anticipated sixth instalment of the series.

GTA V is still too profitable, so Rockstar probably sees no need to take plans for GTA VI seriously at the moment. Besides, GTAV is their best yet. Let's just hope GTA VI doesn't become the next Half-Life 3.

I'm ready for GTAVI mentally and physically lol. Please don't become another edition of valve haha!

Hey, I just featured this post on the first version of my "Patch notes for #gaming" curation. Please check it out.

Thank you! I certainly will check it out!

They won't want to take anything away from Red Dead Redemption 2, so I'm afraid we likely won't hear anything on GTA 6 until late in 2019.

Some are saying 2019 is optimistic. Lets hope not :O
