Pokemon Go: Limited Time Psychic Type Pokemon Event

Alongside having Mewtwo as a the Legendary Raid boss this month, Niantic has releases a limited time special event that increases the spawn rate for Psychic-type Pokemon like Ralts, Abra, and Drowzee. The event will last until October 14thwhich is also the day that Mewtwo is set to leave Raid battles as well. The event is not bad considering the implications it has for catching Mewtwo.

If you catch enough Pokemon of one type like Psychic, you are awarded bronze, silver and gold badges for completing the challenges. However, this also makes it easier for you to catch these types of Pokemon after achieving those badges. While Mewtwo was an EX-Raid boss, I found that the catch rate was considerably higher than normal raid bosses which made sense as the EX-Raid was a reward type event for having participated in Raid battle with larger groups. However, now that Mewtwo is a normal Legendary raid boss, Niantic raised the CP stats to make it harder to beat as well as reduced the catch rate considerably. So if you are having trouble catching Mewtwo, focus on catching as many Psychic type Pokemon during the event to achieve the gold badge which should increase the chance of capturing Mewtwo after raid battles.

They are also releasing shiny Drowzee in the wild so another shiny for the collection if you are lucky enough to encounter one. Another consideration of this event is Ralts. Ralts has an upcoming evolution in Generation 4 so having some extra candy would be a great idea to prepare for Generation 4 which is probably closer than we think. Niantic continues to be very active with events to engage its fanbase so I would not be surprised if Generation 4 is up next given where we are at.
