RE: Final Fantasy 7 remake - first impressions

I played the demo and find the combat extremely confusing. I think you kind of have to look at it as if it actually is turn-based and then just try to block the rest of the time. The dodge mechanics don't seem to work nearly as well and a lot of the time you are probably better off just holding block and taking the damage rather than trying to get out of the way and then taking full damage.

By the end of the demo I can't say that I really like the combat but I suppose they did feel compelled to change things up a bit. At least they stayed away from that strange XV mechanic where the main character whose name i do not remember would simply hang off of a nearby ledge all the time. That was odd and it didn't work either.

yeah, i'm not really on board with the combat either. I sometimes forget which person I am controlling and if you end up in a situation where you are really low on HP you can't even use any items until you strike something to gain action points or whatever they are called. you also have to deal with weird camera angles sometimes when the enemy is jumping up to a perch for a bit and you can't even see it until it lands on your head. There are a lot of problems with the combat and small battles where you can grind for XP also, for the most part, do not exist. It's a strange system for sure but i am not giving up!
