What we are dealing with today is one of the best in the genre for PCs and consoles of recent years, for its own merits, for the detail that has been put into it and for all that it offers us. Go up to your wagons and take a seat, our adventure of creation, maintenance and expansion begins. Welcome to Railway Empire , from Gaming Minds Studios .

We are facing a commitment to the management strategy , a simulator of infrastructure creation in which our mission is, beyond creating and maintaining. And it is not easy, since one of the first characteristics that come to light in Railway Empire is the detail with which the challenges for engineering that represent the terrain and the expenses are reflected. But all this can be lived in different ways. The game offers us a campaign mode, which we could call the "basic" to enjoy a series of objectives to fulfill . The recommendation of the subscriber is, before launching to try "new things", make us owners of the game system in this.

The start of it takes place with a complete tutorial that will show us, little by little, how to build the basic infrastructures (in addition to how to move around the stage, which does not seem to be a problem; interface , elaborate and complete, full of "buttons" to control each of the functions of the title, yes, do the tutorial , or you will go blind). Everything is covered with a kind of sense of humor that makes us, through caricatured characters, put in context in the most playful way possible. But make no mistake: here it's time to think.

As expected, with a maximum budget that we must use, increase and little by little without the player realising it. Like any good company, you have to invest to win, but you need work and good decisions for it. The whole game is developed in the United States , where we will have to get around the geography to connect both coasts, both for passengers and goods, both being a good source of income once it works. In this sense, the campaign mode can be somewhat stressful, everything is said. We need a great precision when it comes to spending and winning , because the objectives to meet can be a real challenge at the economic level. The same does not happen in Free mode or in ("Experiment").

There are five "zones" to work with, but we only have one at the beginning. It is up to each one to unblock the later, always surpassing the aforementioned objectives of the campaign . But we go step by step: on the one hand we have the main thing: the stations, and there are several types. Big, small, rural ... everything depends on the environment and it is the player who has to choose (well, if possible). But there are also maintenance buildings in the middle of the road, both of liquid and of various goods.

That's why everything is not related buildings : we need different factories, from factories of consumables to generators. All this, within a broad environment in which everything must be connected with the different stations, giving rise to different situations of overlap. That's where the strategy comes in: we have to create secondary roads, place signs so that the trains stop and the network does not collapse. We also have to create certain tourist attractions that are a claim and provoke the desire of travelers to use our network, and with this we achieve the relevant expansion.

Not content with this, the money we gain in a number of occasions will also go away while we dedicate ourselves to the following obligation: the hiring of machinists, who will be improving and will cost more ... we can look at the necessary resources and profile within the corresponding menu. And this has to be warned: it can be extraordinarily laborious to learn so much data at the beginning . Since the creation of a new railway line, with its corresponding locomotive (which we have to order from among the 40 unlockables ) to the machinist, the conductor, the stoker and the guard (lest I give some outlaw to pass ... ). Each of these elements has its submenu, descriptions ... we even have up to 30 types of wagons.

Once our network is created, we have to maintain it and, most importantly, make it evolve. This can take as many hours as we want: we talk about up to 300 technological improvements that we will be adopting depending on the game mode we prefer (in the campaign we will be asked at certain times, probably the best option to do so in a balanced way). This element is basic, and that is that we will not be the only roosters in the corral ... there are three companies that will open their way and offer improvements so that citizens could feel more seduced by their services. But calm, not everything is "wait and see who wins": we can spy on their services and even make the odd game ... or not, depends on the ethics of each.

And then there is the most pleasant option and in which we will use our own railroad: Experimentar Mode . It basically consists of observing from the locomotive, as if we were inside (in first person), the path of trains through our network, cities, landscapes ... and all with an interesting use of technology to create pleasant spaces, sunsets ... probably the point where the title most "loose the hair" as far as graphics are concerned.

And that is the next section, how is it ? We must understand that, not being a jewel in the crown, its technical section is consistent with the genre to which it belongs, and without further ado let's enjoy scenarios that, seen in perspective, may seem simple; at least until we zoom in and we see everything more "at street level" (or via), when we get to see beautiful details: the urban centers are alive, the trains are reflected with great luxury of details, in addition to the effects, the smoke of the locomotives, the different complexes ... perhaps where less effort has been put (apologizing the proportion, which of course is adapted to visually enjoy the game without needing to be expanding every two spans) on the ground. It is not that it does not "look" well, but in what areas it can be somewhat archaic.

In the sound section, everything is basically functional. Yes there are nice melodies that accompany our "work" throughout the mapping, some voices of narrator (quiet, everything can be heard) and the different effects of the elements in the environment.

The curve of difficulty, on the other hand, is something "uncouth" at the beginning, because it seems to require some knowledge of which, clearly, we do not have. But it's a matter of having patience. Both the construction of roads (which is up to a certain point of automatic layout, depending on how we do it) as well as the other elements are emerging according to need, and everything depends on being able to recognize the icons and get their meaning. And, as said before , the interface is something to stop , as in the "temporary" system, because we can choose to continue everything, stop the time when we edit the environment ... it all depends on the player's style . Of course, we can dedicate 30 hours ... or whatever we want, in free mode . This depends on the commitment of each player when it comes to evolve their network and technology.
