Bravo Team PS4 Review

Virtual reality offers a universe of possibilities to developers, who can now create much more immersive experiences than before. We have seen it with "traditional" stories that become something more, like in Moss , or with regular horror games that thanks to the VR get a plus of interest, as has happened with The Inpatient . This last game is also the work of Supermassive Games , which rose to fame with Until Dawn , and since then have become multitasking, developing several projects, such as the ones mentioned above , with the likes of Hidden Intentions.

About the Game

It is a first person action game with cooperative dyes, specifically made to be played on the PlayStation 4 virtual reality system, PS VR. In this way, we put ourselves in the shoes of one of the members of a military couple in enemy territory, and we have to go from cover to cover, poking and shooting as many soldiers of hostile forces come before us . The funny thing is that we are the ones who handle the weapon with our command, the PS Move or the Aim Controller, making the action even more real than in other action games controlled from a subjective perspective.

Setting

To this we must know that the mood of this Bravo Team is realistic in terms of setting, with human enemies and realistic weapons to the point of having to look for drawers of ammunition to recharge our main weapon. To this we must add that it is a game designed to be played cooperatively with another user , making use of voice chat and covering us as we move forward as if we were agents of the real world special forces. You can also play alone, with a partner controlled by a somewhat erratic AI to which we can give simple commands, but that takes away some flavor from the game experience devised by Supermassive Games.

Controls/ Weapons

We will be going from one point to another on the stage, and aiming with great precision thanks to our controllers (the best way to enjoy Bravo Team is with the Aim Controller , which adds an extra dose of realism, and it works like a charm). The sensations with the weapon are good, but something fails in the set ... The aim may not be as fine as it should be, for the enemies to survive too many bullets to be realistic, or to miss options when shooting.

In fact, the lack of options is the biggest slab of this Bravo Team , since the only thing we will do is select the point to which we want to go to continue advancing and shoot from there, peeping from the coverage with the L1 button, or tilting our body to shoot without exposing us so much. And nothing more. That is to say, that our possibilities are limited to those of the games of shots on classic rails, to the Time Crisis , only that being able to choose the following immediate coverage. The problem is that this flexibility in allowing us to advance through the limited game maps ends up affecting the variety of situations. It is not the same sequence orchestrated appearance of enemies, that see how the AI swarms, hides or runs towards us as if our shots were not going to kill them (spoiler: often do, but not always).

This directly affects the variety of situations, which ends up being reduced to going back and forth and then shooting the enemies with the weapon you touch. This can be an assault rifle, a shotgun, a sniper rifle ... with the everlasting company of a pistol with silencer and infinite ammunition for this weapon. It is here, with the weapon when the variety appears, since otherwise, the game does not do much to offer it, with lots of shootings in which the set does change, but not the mechanics, and everything ends up being too generic. It is true that there are moments of stealth (which are the most crude), some change of pace and moments of certain spectacularity in which different vehicles come into play ... But we limit ourselves in all cases to point out the following point to the that go, and shoot makes the gameplay boring too fast, although firing weapons is quite satisfactory.

Additional Info

Luckily (or unfortunately) Bravo Team lasts little and does not offer too many reasons for us to replay it in the form of extras. In a couple of hours we can finish the 7 stages of the story, and we will be ready to taste the rest of the game modes ... which are reduced to replay the normal levels, but this time winning points with each shot and each enemy low, with a score multiplier of the most arcade (and infinite resurrections). That is, it adds something of interest, but does not add variety to the whole, which means that, once again, after having tasted it, it falls back into oblivion. The other possibilities are limited to a tutorial, and the possibility of playing with a friend through the network or locally. That is, nothing new on the horizon.

If to this we add that visually the game is bland and flat both in terms of scenarios, and in terms of animations, that the soundtrack is forgettable, and that the narrative of the game itself is as uninteresting as the AI of the game itself , the result is a production that disappoints in almost all its aspects - at least it is dubbed into Castilian -. The title of Supermassive Games does not quite live up to anything, except in the sensations when firing the weapon when we use the Aim Controller, which is the control method with which Bravo Team works best.

Conclusion

Bravo Team is a very limited title, which fails to offer a memorable virtual reality experience. Yes it does that the sensations of aiming and firing are trustworthy, especially if we use the Aim Controller, but beyond this it is far from its objectives. It is short, little varied, feote and quite limited in its proposal.
