The Super Nintendo has in its catalog so many games that made history in the video game industry and left a mark in the childhood of many people, that even today, so many years since the creation of this marvel (SNES) is still in the mind and in the memory of those who had the pleasure of playing the great and representative games of their time.

Today I bring you a new Retro Review of: Terranigma.

terranigmastory.png

At the moment of beginning this game they show us this introduction:

The planet possesed two souls.

An External face and a Internal face.

Lightside and Darkside.

4.6 billion years since the planet´s birth, Growth and decline circle to two wills.

At the will of Lightside, new life is born.

At the will of Darkside, ice ages descend.

Lightside wills intelligent beings.

Rapid progress takes root.

Darksides´s will breeds fear and deisharmony.

They came to be called "God" and "Devil".

At the beginning of this story we find ourselves in a small town called Crysta, a very peaceful town that is under the surface of the earth, in this town lives our main protagonist: Ark, a boy who to be honest, at first you might not like many people, because Ark likes to make jokes to the inhabitants of the town and as expected of so many pranks and jokes, he got into a great problem.

Ark is a homeless child, therefore he lives in a residence especially for those kids who do not have a family, in that residence also lives the Sage of the people, he is responsible for taking care of all these children, but one day, Ark encouraged by the other children of the residence opens a door that previously the Sage had told him not to open, upon entering he finds himself with the very Pandora's box and of course, as expected, he opens the box, unleashing the evil in the whole town, when opening the Pandora's box he made almost all the inhabitants of the town freeze immediately, the only ones that did not become statues of ice were: the Sage, Ark and a creature that lived in the box that has the name Yomi.

Now the people and the world are in grave danger, but the Sage knows how to solve this problem, he tells Ark that he must go to all the towers that are in the world of darkness. Do you remember the introduction of the principle?, It turns out that Ark lives in that world and there is also the world of light, but this world is empty, with nothing in it, therefore the mission of going to each tower is of great importance to be able to restore the continents of the world of the light and that the inhabitants of the town return to normality.

And so begins our adventure and the difficult task of our problematic protagonist, a task that is only the beginning of all that this great game has to offer us, Terranigma reminds me in large part of Secret Of Mana, both for its playability and as well for the fact that the protagonist is responsible for the unleashing of evil in the world.

Graphically Terranigma is a marvel, it is one of the games with the best graphic quality that the SNES gave us, with scenarios that, as you may suppose, they have a lot of details at their disposal, as well as a variety of places to go. These scenarios were drawn with excellent dedication, using well-defined and vivid colors, all this by the standards of the time, although even if we see it today is a game worth recognizing that looks pretty good.

The movements of the animations are noticed quite fluidly, in this game highlights the battle animations, such as the skills we can use when hitting an enemy, these have a reaction that is quite "natural" to say it in some way, in turn the protagonist has a series of reactions or emotions that are displayed throughout the game.

Enix really showed the effort when it comes to programming this game and although the sprites of the characters are small compared to other games, Terranigma has certain details that make it distinguish very much with similar ones. Terranigma has its own style and personality.

terranigmasound.png

It is quite noticeable the shoulders under which this game is made, it is about Enix (before joining SquareSoft), as always in these types of games one of its best aspects in the section of sound, where the composition of the melodies fit perfectly with each scenario, situation and the world where the game is developed, in the case of Terranigma, this is another of those games that have melodies that can be considered the best that can be found in the world of video games. And although the soundtrack was not composed by maestro Nobuo Uematsu, the work done by Miyoko Takaoka and Masanori Hikich is worthy of admiration.

Terranigma is an Action RPG, therefore our skill is a key piece in the gameplay of this game, because the battles are in real time we must use our skills and movements well when fighting against hordes of enemies or bosses that we find ourselves. Like any game of this genre, we will gain experience when we defeat the enemies in such a way that this will help us improve our character, increasing different aspects of their stats until they become a totally strong character.

As it is common in the RPG, we will have at our disposal a series of armors and weapons that will help us throughout our adventure, in the case of weapons there are many that have different abilities that will help us to cross certain obstacles on the way or weapons that will help us defeat some enemy more easily. Armor likewise also plays an important role in this game and is because certain armors allow us to have a better defense or protect against certain elements and attacks.

Another aspect of this game is that when it comes to fighting with the bosses, it may be a bit difficult for us, since some of these bosses must be defeated by applying certain strategies, using the right weapons and equipment to make the battle easier, therefore we must investigate which weapons are most effective against certain chiefs and where those weapons are found, as well as which is the best combat strategy that will help us fight against them. This game has a curvature of difficulty very well balanced, so Terranigma is not a difficult game, but it has a degree of difficulty necessary so that no one despairs when playing it.

As I said before, Terranigma is one of the best games of the SNES, which despite not having an especially deep story, this complies with what is necessary so that it is not a mediocre game in that aspect, it's a simple story but well presented and developed, a game for all those who love Action RPG. Retro games always showing that even today and over the years, they remain in force regardless of the generations that are ahead of them.
