Retro Review - Sonic The Hedgehog 2
With the success of the first game, it was not surprising that the second part of the blue hedgehog game went on sale a year later, in fact was so successful the first game, that Sonic became the representative figure of SEGA, and is that it was quite logical since Sonic The Hedgehog was part of the bases of what is the video game industry, with a fast and addictive gameplay that enchanted many people around the world.
After his defeat in the first game, Dr. Robotnik will not stand with his arms crossed, and he still has a plan for world domination, for this has given the task of creating a base in the space called Death Egg (a subtle reference to "Death Star" of Stars Wars), this creation of Dr. Robotnik will be the definitive weapon that will help him to fulfill his vile plans and just as in the first game he makes use of the animals of the forest turning them the robots, in the same way, robotnik is in search of the chaos emeralds , powerful emeralds that when they are all together, are able to grant a great amount of power to whoever has them in their control.
But our beloved blue hedgehog is not going to stand idly by before robotnik and embarks on another adventure to be able, once and for all, to stop this scientist so annoying, but there is a detail Sonic will not be in this mission he alone, will have the help of Miles Tails Prowers(Tails for friends), it is a small fox with the ability to be able to fly for a few seconds thanks to its tails, now we have two heroes Sonic and Tails, they must end the plans of Dr. Robotnik and bring peace again to Mobius.
Again Sonic The Hedgehog brings us a story that despite being simple, is more than enough to entertain us, with the novelty that this time we have a new partner, in addition to adding in the story for the first time the emeralds of chaos, a clear reference to the Dragon Ball saga.
Taking into account that Sonic 2 came out a year after the first game, it improved moderately in the graphic aspect, in turn they added more scenarios than in the previous game, all of them with many more details comparing them with those of the first game, but maintaining that style of drawing so characteristic and with the palette of colors that makes each stage feel full of life.
Sega was able to improve the graphics quality of the scenarios, especially in the animations that we can observe as we move through them, and although when a comparison is made between the two games, the change is not so significant, is enough to know which is which.
However as many know (or should know) the graphics do not dictate whether a game is good or bad, while that game has a gameplay that can compliment that graphic lack or in your case, tell a story accompanied by a good soundtrack, is enough to give us hours of fun.
Because in Sonic 2 we have the possibility to play in more scenarios, the list of music that we have the pleasure of listening is bigger than in the previous game. Something I like about old games, is that most have a soundtrack where each song has personality, that is to say, we can listen to any music from some of the maps that we find while we are playing and we know almost immediately that it is a sonic game, the music has the ability to relate almost immediately with some game, film or TV series.
The developers of Sonic 2 repeated the formula they used when programming the previous game with respect to its gameplay, does not present any significant changes in the handling of Sonic, but in turn to Sonic they added a new movement, where the blue hedgehog is able to take the form of a ball that rotates at great speeds, in such a way that it has the ability to get expelled at a higher speed, allowing us to overcome some obstacles that we find along the way, otherwise it stays the same, we must move through the stages, where each one presents an excellent design, which are well thinking so that our beloved blue hedgehog moves at greater speed.
Although the great change that is noticed, which we actually see on the cover of the game, is the integration of a new character: Tails, whose ability is to be able to fly for short periods of time thanks to their tails.
Sonic 2 also has a new game mode, where we have the possibility to play with a friend, for this, the split screen in two, and our purpose was a race controlling Sonic or tails, and who reached the final with higher score won.
In this new game of Sonic added 11 different scenarios that in turn maintain a little relation with those of the previous game and are:
Sonic 2 is a game that was able to overcome the "curse" that says the second parts are always bad, as I said in my previous review, in the case of video games are more times where the second parts exceed their predecessor, compared to what can be series or movies.
Never was much of a fan of sonic games, but I always loved the aesthetic.
Yes, this game has a pretty showy style.
I was watching the GIFs and I could hear the sounds and music.
The only missing out of all the sounds was the one that played went he went underwater and was running out of time.
For many people it was Mario Bros - for me I was Sonic. and being the younger sibling, I often longs in the split screen races lol, but of how I shined on those special stages.
