Along with greats from the videogame world such as: Mario, Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog, MegaMan stands as the fourth pillar representative of what was and is the video game industry.

Although MegaMan is currently a saga rather neglected by its developers because they have failed to pay the tribute it deserves to their previous games, this still remains in the minds of those people who in their childhood or adolescence made them spend a good time trying to overcome their difficult levels and bosses.

Today I bring you a new Retro Review of the first MegaMan game.

And we started.

The story of the first Megaman was nothing to be out of the world, in fact it was quite simple compared to other games but that does not detract from being an excellent game.

It all starts when Dr.Light in order to help people create 6 robots to meet that goal, but everything changes drastically when Dr.Light's assistant,

Doctor Willy, jealous of the work done by his partner decides to steal the 6 robots and reprogram them for evil purposes in order to conquer the world.

This is when our beloved blue star, MegaMan, comes into action. Previously he was a Dr.Light assistant robot but this one offers to stop with Dr.Wily's plans and eliminate the 6 robots that have been stolen, so it is modified to make it a battle robot armed with a laser cannon in one of its hands.

Perhaps MegaMan does not have a story with a very elaborate background, but it makes up very well with the aspects that I will explain below.

Taking into account that it is a game of much more than 20 years, visually it is quite well done, until today it is very enjoyable to play it, since the graphics of 8 Bits that has this game were very well designed, colored and textured.

The design of characters of the best, both our protagonist and the final bosses, as MegaMan its sprite design despite being simple is quite distinguishable and unmatched, demonstrating that only using a few colors can create a character who is an icon and representative of a generation.

The final bosses in turn, each one has a design that distinguishes them from the others, there are none that resembles, , in addition to starting the game we have the possibility to choose the representative map of each boss, where the mapping is designed in relation to its boss, that is, the setting of each world is characterized by the powers that have the final bosses.

Maybe it's because both the art in 8 Bit and 16 Bit are my favorites, because something so simple can do spectacular things, but as a personal opinion, MeganMan years has not sat at all badly compared to many games that came out that same year and even games that came to many years after this, because it is still maintained with that retro touch characteristic of the time.

MegaMan is a very well musicalized game, many of its songs are very catchy and were specially composed to fit the stage where we move with our blue cyborg.

In turn each final boss has a characteristic musical theme and I'm sure many here know them, since many of them are representative icons of what MegaMan was in its time, , the only bad thing in my opinion is that the duration of each theme is relatively short, but still enjoyable.

The gameplay is the main feature of this game and for those who have played the first MegaMan know what I mean, without exaggerating this was the DarkSouls of his time due to his degree of difficulty, I was one of those who despaired and stopped playing when a game became too difficult and good as a child I could never pass it, it took some years to complete.

It was characteristic high difficulty and this was because in itself the game was quite short and therefore the degree of difficulty was high so that people would not pass the game so fast.

In each phase of the game has an end boss, those final bosses are the 6 robots that have been stolen by Dr.Wily and each of them have a special ability where we have:

CutMan: His ability is to be able to throw scissors so we can cut ourselves.

Source

GutsMan: Has enormous strength.

Source

Iceman: As its name indicates its ability represents the ice.

Source

Elecman: Ability to use lightning.

Source

FireMan: Manipulate the fire.

Source

Bombman: There's not much to say about this one but it's bombs.

Source

In addition, each of these bosses is weak to the ability of the other, for example:

Bombman is weak before the power of FireMan.

FireMan is weak against IceMan.

Elecman is weak to Cutman.

Iceman weak against Elecman.

GutsMan weak against BombMan

Cutman is weak against Gutsman.

Taking into account that after defeating the final bosses we obtain powers related to their abilities, we must wisely choose which boss to face first, to gain his skill and take advantage against the next.

But according to many fans of MegaMan the most difficult boss of this game is the Yellow Devil robot, because their attack pattern is quite is very random and strange, I leave a sample.

As a curious fact I leave this is the horrible and strange cover of MegaMan that went to North America:

Many years have passed since the departure of a good game of MegaMan and although they have left many games that promised to be the maximum tribute to our dear blue cyborg, unfortunately they have not achieved and MegaMan has been one of the most forgotten games in the video game world.

Our only consolation is to be able to relive those times when we spent hours trying to overcome those difficult levels that made us frustrated, but then once we managed to overcome the feeling of satisfaction in doing so was something that few games made us feel.

And I just hope that in the future he will be given the merit that deserves this great character and this great saga as it was MegaMan.

Great review....

I didn't want to know which boss is weak to what but I figured that from the designs and checked yours to find out, yeah I guessed right (it wasn't a challenge actually).

I heard someone say that Cutman is the easiest to beat of them.

I haven't played any of the original Megaman series (except 8 in my childhood and never finished it). I'm thinking of getting the CLASSIC COLLECTION on steam but not before I finish the 10 or so games I have before it (Got so much from Humble Bundle I decided to sell the games I don't need on steemit. if someone bought them before I redeem them)

What a Horrible strange cover of the USA megaman...

You have to play it, you're going to have it bad at times, but it's a pretty enjoyable game.

Thanks for your comment, you are always welcome.

Such a great post. Upvoted :)
