Halo: Master-chief throughout the Years

Welcome to another addition of Fowl Play's gaming blogs. Today we're going to be talking about Bungie's/343's greatest character ever created.

That's right. We're talking about The Master-chief. Spartan 117. Demon or simply- John.
We're going to see how this stoic tank of a man has evolved over the generations.

We'll kick things off with how The Master Chief's struggle against the Covenant started back in Halo: Combat Evolved.
As we're all aware, the Chief didn't have the best of armour back in those days but that never stopped him from kicking ass and taking names. We learn that the Super soldier is the only one of his kind left (after the tragic events on Reach) but he definitely gives Spartan kind a good name.

For those who loved the first game and its story line back in 2001 got to enjoy the remastered version for it's ten year anniversary.

With the help of his super intelligent AI partner, Cortana, John is capable of destroying a super-massive weapon known as the Halo Ring from being fired. The very weapon capable of eliminating all organic life within a huge radius.

It is thanks to our Spartan that this weapon never saw use and at the same time, destroyed the remaining parasite lifeforms on the Ring known as the flood who are also capable of destroying entire civilisations.

When you think all the conflict is over and its time to receive your medals and armour upgrades, you're plunged straight back into the action after the Covenant stumble across Humanity's fleet and Planet Earth.

Yet another remaster. Aren't we lucky. If you haven't already, we strongly recommend you play it. The remastered cut scenes are phenomenal.

This time around you really get to take the fight to the Covenant going so far as to chase their flagship through light speed leading you to yet another Halo Ring. No one messes with Earth am I right? During the events on this Halo ring, the crazy ass prophets try to activate the rings yet again but this time we learn why the Halo rings were constructed and lets just say it wasn't created for a 'Great Journey', more of a purge of all life. Don't worry, The Chief isn't about to let that happen, he makes sure the Covenant pay once again and even takes out one of their Prophet leaders in the process. Meanwhile, the Elites learn this truth and desperate to not become martyrs for a fanatical cause, decide to team up with the humans in order to foil the Covenant's suicidal plan yet again.
It's not the end of all life as we know it just yet...

It's back into the fray once more for old Master Chief as he returns to Earth aboard a forerunner spaceship having left Cortana behind with the Flood. The Covenant now have the plan to travel to The Ark where they can remotely activate all existing Halo Rings completing their Great Journey. Unfortunately for humanity, the portal to this Ark is located on Earth. Time for another invasion.

Despite 117's best attempts to take the fight to the Covenant on the ground, it doesn't stop their ships from glassing part of Earth and it doesn't stop them from reaching The Ark.
Now it's time to play cat and mouse and stop The Prophet of Truth from activating the Ark and all the remaining rings.
It is during the events of Halo 3 that we really see how bad ass The Chief can be as he battles his way through hoards of Covenant and later the Flood. This Spartan will stop at nothing to get the job done and along the way he keeps his promise of saving Cortana from the Flood. How sweet.

We end this epic game with an incredible and intense race against time in a car as John and the Arbiter rush to get the hell off the Ark as its destruction clock counts down. Hell of an end to an epic trilogy. Well Done Bungie.

Time for 343 Industries to take over now to answer the cliffhanger at the end of Halo 3 Legendary ending. The ship you escaped on in the previous game finds itself on a crash course towards an unknown, unusual planet. It appears to be inside out? A shield World? Strange, but the Halo universe is full of surprises. Only thing is, its taken over 4 years to come across this planet. That's a long time, especially for an AI... like Cortana.

Oh would you look at that, Chief's armour got an upgrade during his cryo sleep.

Upon crash landing on this unknown planet, John come across some familiar enemies such as the (new) Covenent and some less familiar enemies known as the Prometheans. It is at this time he discovers Cortana has outlived her AI life expectancy and is now facing rampancy. Not good news. Chief now has to battle against almost every life form on the planet so that he can get Cortana to her creator and hopefully save her from her fate.

With a bigger problem now on the rise with this new Didact character wanting to eliminate humanity, Chief has to put aside helping Cortana to help all of humanity. Though he does manage to save Earth once again from annihilation, it comes at the cost of his AI buddy Cortana.
Poor Chief, he saved humanity but didn't get the girl at the end. Now he's alone alone in a world of new subpar characters.

Events take an unusual and different turn with this game as Chief is now accompanied by a posse to help him carry out cleaning duty on different pockets of Covenant. However, the usual firefight takes a left turn as Chief learns of a possible location of Cortana. Thought she was dead? So did everyone, something strange is going on.

After The Master Chief and Co go AWOL to find Cortana, the UNSC puts headhunter Spartan Locke on the case to bring him in. Meanwhile, Cortana starts awakening these giant forerunner constructs that she plans to use to bring order to the chaotic universe... through force!

In any event, after much searching and Spartan on Spartan fighting, the Chief finally meets with Cortana and discovers the ugly truth behind her plan and sees for himself that there is no convincing her out of it. Cortana locks the Master Chief away to be protected whilst she prepares to start her campaign of subduing all life into peace. Spartan Locke was so close to reaching them as well but you just cant compete with a super intelligent super powerful AI who has access to all forerunner tech.

It's left A LOT of potential for the story of the next Halo. We cant wait to see what will happen.
