Over three hours playing Forged Battalion... 3/15 missions done
This is a really cool and customizable RTS. And hard. So damn hard!
I'm not experienced in RTS's. I only got to silver rank in Starcraft II. Age of Empires 1 and Age of Empires Online are my RTS cup of tea, but I never learned their competitive builds. MOBA's were my thing since DotA 1.
Despite definitely knowing the basics, this is tough as nails. For an indie game focused on multiplayer, it's understandeable, but boy am I getting massacred.
We get an army to customize as we like. We get unit traits like cannon, tanky, fast movement, focus fire, artillery and a lot others. We can combine them into making the perfect unity we can come up with. Of course, we can't fit everything into a single unit.
We have to mix up our strategy through our whole faction. More bonuses affect their time and building costs. We can create up to three types of each unity: infantry, light vehicle, heavy vehicle and aicrafts to get things running the way we want against other players' armies.
All of the gameplay feels like Command & Conquer, and the AI goes hardcore from mission 3. Damn, it's hard! I could only finish it when I finally realized I had to mass build towers around the enemy's base. After 2 hours playing the same map, got the job done. Now there's just 12 more missions to go. Maybe I'll skip to multiplayer sooner than planned.
