Game Review! -STEEP
Greetings Steemians @eyeofthemind here with MY FIRST GAME REVIEW!
And what game am I reviewing you may be asking yourself?
Steep is a Ubisoft Annecy game published by Ubisoft. It was first released in 2016. It is available on PS4, Xbox One and Microsoft windows. This review is of STEEP on PS4. STEEP is an online extreme sports game. You can ski, snowboard, squirrel suit, paraglide and with DLC you are able to use sleighs and rocket packs, but I have not downloaded those. I stuck to what came with the game which is plenty of fun in itself.
Although it is an online based game, have no fear if the servers are down. You are able to play in an offline mode. Online play mainly consists of goals and challenges set by both the computer and fellow users. The top scores are constantly changing which makes for challenges everywhere you go. At times I’ve had trouble linking up with friends to ride in the same session, this is the only bad thing I have found about this game. But when it works, it’s excellent.
Graphics
What I love most about this game is the beauty and free flow of it. You can ski the slopes in The Alps, or Alaska (Asia now available as well). The mountain ranges are stunning as well as the lighting. Golden morning, afternoon, golden hour and even night skiing are available (which you can change at your will). The snow can range from deep powder in the glades and fluff to icy, rocky terrain and it all feels and sounds wonderful. When playing with headphones, it really feels like you’re swooshing through the slopes.
Story
The story is not super rich but is a well balanced set of tasks and goals that exposes you to new spots, terrains, tricks and possibilities. You can choose to begin a challenge at any time and bail when you want. You are completely free to do what you want. And if freedom is something you enjoy in a game this is what you may be looking for.
Gameplay
So how does this game play? Smooth, smooth as butter. You can heli to new locations, take off your board or skis and hike up to new places you’ve yet to unlock.
If you want to style up your rider there are plenty of both clothing and gear options that you unlock throughout the game.
a challenging experience.
The controls are smooth and easy to learn. (although I’ve heard from a friend that without a joystick on his PC he felt a bit restricted when it came to unique grabs).
The soundtrack is a bit lacking but, for me that doesn’t take much away from the game as the sound of the wind and snow is enough for me. Also, you can jam to your own tunes through your media while playing.
Does this game have replayability? (something I look for in a game)
Absolutely! This is a game I love to pick up and mess around with when I’m just trying to relax and take things easy. But it can also provide a challenge via racing or other online tasks.
Overall Rating? For me it would be an 8/10.
It’s fun, it’s smooth, it’s beautiful and it can be played over and over again. I take a couple points off because linking up with friends has been tricky in the past when it comes to joining sessions. But when it’s working, it’s absolutely wonderful. Feels great to cruise along with a buddy and compete as well.
I would like to take this time to say that I do not work for UBISOFT in any shape way or form, I just wanted to share with you all my experience playing this beautifully made game. I would also like to thank you for taking the time to check out my review. If there is anything else you would like to know about this game, please feel free to leave a comment. Voting and support is always appreciated and if you would like to see more reviews in the future follow @eyeofthemind. Until next time, be well, be happy.
