CIVILIZATION IV MOD THAT YOU SHOULD REALLY TRY!

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)

Civilization IV was released in the year of 2005 and even though it is a really old game there are still people playing it and find this game as one of the best ever made. I am one of those people. There is still a community behind this game that is trying to make this game even more awesome than it already is.

Of course, there is a new civilization game almost every year, like CIV V and CIV VI, but they can't really compare to the sophistication of CIV 4 with all the expansions added.

What is Realism Invictus?

Realism Invictus is a civilization IV mod that completely revamp the game. It's been with us for more than 12 years and there are still people working on new updates and versions. It is a free mod and you only need original CIV IV game and expansion Beyond The Sword.

So what can it do?
I will pin point some of the big chances and upgrades to the game.

There are more than 130 new techs with own voice acting. Every technology can give you a new buildings, units and more. Choose which way you will research, but don't forget that for a good military you need a good infrastructure.

New civics, unit promotions, traits and leaders. Choose of many different leaders with their personalities that give you advantages and disadvantages in the game. Ghandi has traits like philosophical, humanist and idealistic. Completely different from Churchill, who is protective, imperialistic and temperamental.

Over 200 new units and over 100 more buildings that you can build.

And also more world wonders, new resources that you can harvest, unique great people with real name and photos, deadly epidemics, unique artstyle and music assigned to each civilization and much, much more!

It just makes the game more realistic and more balanced. And as each civilization is different and every leader is different it also means every game you play will be a little bit different.

And even if there is so much added, the game keeps it own beauty.

Do you want to know more?

There is still an active community on these two forums.

There you can also download the mod. Even though the last version you can donwload is 3.3 from the year 2015, don't worry, it is really still being updated, but it is all in the SVN repository now (http://www.realism-invictus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=825).

The problem with the SVN is that if there is some fatal bug it can destroy your game and you will not be able to load the game anymore. So I think playing version 3.3 is probably better.

I have played this mod a lot and I have never completed the whole game. I am always trying to start in the ancient era and go through all the eras to the future and then win in the space war. However even AI is more Intelligent in this mod and even playing on the warlord difficulty is getting hard for me after hundreds and hundreds turns. Looks like I will have to try again.

Bless you for all the entertainment team of Realism Invictus, you guys rock!

I always thought that Civ IV exceeded what Civ V did once you had all the expansions for both. It had much better mechanics IMO, but Civ V wins in presentation.

It's tough to go back to the non-hex tiles though, once you are used to them.

In terms of graphics the CIV V is the winner. However It looks like they don't really know what graphics they really like the most (CIV V - realism, CIV VI - cartoonish again).

Hex Tiles are great, but I don't like the part that on one hex-tile there can be only one unit. At least 3 would be better in my opinion. :)

Hi, my dear friend! Don't forget about 4 round of Starwars contest.😉

Oh thank you erika! I was using chainbb for commenting and it looks like the comment didn't go through, because I was one of the first commenting... :)

I knew Civ IV was popular but didn't realize it still had such a active community. That's pretty awesome I must say. Going to save this and check it out later.

Yeah exavier and the main creator of the mod is a very good guy, he really tries to answer every comment he got on the forums! :(

I prefer civ 5 and the amazing mod Vox populi

Oh will have to look into it! What do you need for it? Standalone game plus all the expansions?

I think you Need civ5 and the Expansions:
•Gods and Kings Expansion
•Brave New World Expansion
•All Leader DLC
•Ancient Wonders DLC
