Overwatch Stat Cards Broken??

Tell me if you have ever experienced this... You are playing Overwatch, completely killing it on your main, putting rounds down range like a champ, and feeling completely unstoppable. You look at your stats and you have 4 gold medals. Let's just be honest...you are carrying your team! The game ends and you even get play of the game. You are feeling great! Then you see the statistics cards and you don't have one? What? How could that be? You had more elims than that guy, more damage than that guy, and more time on point than that guy. How do they have stat cards and you don't?
Has this happened to you? I could swear it has happened to me before. Are the stat cards broken?
Well to confuse things even more here is an Overwatch designer explaining the current stat card mechanic. Guess what? He says it's not broken.
Overwatch Principle Designer, Scott Mercer
"To get a card for any statistic, you need to have the most of that statistic across ALL players, both on your team and the enemy's. So even if you have gold medal for eliminations on your team, if a player on the enemy team has more eliminations than they are eligible for the card and you are not. This rule is in place because if someone else ever got a card and you had more of the stat in question, the system was considered to be broken."
Here is the article from pvplive.net explaining more.

Well there you go. Do you believe Scott? Is the stat card mechanic working correctly for you? Let me know what you think.
Until next time.
