Top Free Games - Hearthstone

On my page I mostly talk about games and most of those games are paid games, recently I was asked to talk about a few more free games as a lot of the time people don't want to pay for a game that they may not spend a lot of time on. So I decided I would start a new short series highlighting my favourite free games.

The games I will talk about will mostly be pretty big games that have a lot of game play to get through as there is a lot of free games out there however it can be quite hard to find a free game that actually has a lot of content. The game I will cover will also mostly be on Steam.

Hearthstone

Hearthstone is an online/single player collectible card game.

Hearthstone is played 1v1 each player will battle with a 30 card deck, in the deck you can have a maximum of two of the same card. As the game is turn based to stop there from being an advantage one player starts with three cards and the other with four, each turn at the start of your turn you will be given a random card from your deck.

Heroes

In game you can choose between nine different heroes, the heroes work as different classes rather than playable characters. The classes are; Mage, Hunter, Paladin, Warrior, Druid, Warlock, Shaman, Priest and Rogue, each of the classes has unique cards that only they can use.

The heroes also each have their own ability, each ability is different and will cost two mana to use and they can only be used once per-turn.

Cards

In game there are a huge amount of cards you can use, neutral cards that can be used in all decks and the class specific mentioned before along with this there are a few different types of cards; basic, rare, epic and legendary. For the most part the more rare the card type the stronger the card is however to make a good deck you will need to use all types of cards.

The mana cost really does depend on a lot as you can have some very low costing legendary cards and there are some very high costing basic cards.

There is also quite a few different ways to separate the cards as there is a lot of different types of minions that work together, however the main thing two types to look for are minions and spells although I won't go into more detail than that as there are such a huge amount of different cards.

Game Types

Hearthstone also has a few different game types, the four types are; Online, Competitive, Arena and adventure.

The simple online type is just practicing against other people the games really mean nothing it is just to practice.

Competitive goes up in different ranks the lowest you can be is 25 and then it goes all the way down to 1 also as you would expect you will get placed with other players of a similar rank. Also if you do ever manage to go past rank one it gets to a ranking system of the top players which contains around 500 people.

Arena is a type that you can enter through using a certain amount of gold you have earned or you can use real money to play which will cost around $2, the way arena actually works is you will get to choose a hero to play as and then after that you will get to build a deck, each time you pick a card you will have an option between three cards.

Throughout the arena you will get three losses and the aim is to get 12 wins, the more wins you get the better the rewards.

Then the adventure is a single player mode, you will have to go through multiple challenges against a large range of opponents, you also get given cards as rewards for winning.

Overall

As a whole hearthstone is a lot of fun to play as it really doesn't matter if you are good or bad, either way you can have a lot of fun playing. There is an aspect of pay-to-win however if you are good enough you can play arena and win enough that you will always gain gold to keep playing. The game as a whole though is a lot of fun to play as there is a huge range of different cards and decks to use, they also often release new adventures with new card packs so there is always something to get.
