Game Spotlight: Rocket League

Game spotlight:

Game spotlight is a series of short blogs I will post regularly on my page, the idea is to cover all types of small and indie games across all platforms that I think are great fun to play and are not too expensive. I personally love playing games made by small studios and independent creators because they tend to be more unique, so you are often in for a lot of surprises.

Rocket League:

Rocket league is a vehicular football game that is online based.

The aim of the game is to get the ball into the oppositions net, it sounds simple however there is a few twists to the game. Each player has their own car with unique upgrades to them so you never really know what is going to happen, cars are also able to jump and boost themselves around the pitch.

Rocket league has a quite a few different types of vehicles;

Backfire

Paladin

Marauder

Proteus

Road Hog

Each vehicle is just the basic version without any customization, overall the game boasts 10 billion different possible combinations so each car really is different and you can make it look however you want it to. Each car also has different stats such as speed and how fast it will rotate.

Although the idea of Rocket League is relatively simple the actual game is far from simple, in game there is a huge amount of different techniques you can use to outplay your opponent. Each car also makes a difference to the play style you use. For example a basic technique that helps a lot in game is boost jumping, this is where you jump and as you use your second jump you hold the boost launching you car through the air to get to the ball fist.

Overall I think Rocket League is a great game having a simple premise yet such in-game detail makes for a lot of fun for all types of players. Because it is set out the way it is you can be new to the game or be nearly pro level and have the same amount of fun. Also because the skill cap is so high you will always be improving and be able to play over a long time and still have fun.
