RE: Can you make money with video games? - Videogame History #51 - Retro Review
Second Life was at one point in time, the greatest thing since sliced bread. I started out there as a gamer, competing in user-created versions of games like Yahtzee, Slingo, and even the Pizza minigame from The Sims. Then I got into the business of designing games, beginning with slot machines, and I did okay. But then the U.S. government got involved with stupid anti-online gambling laws and Second Life and its policies went downhill from there. All those non-casino games I mentioned eventually got banned thanks to dumb policies that basically made the use of an RNG (random number generator) a crime, and that meant people could no longer compete in those games to make money.
Second life has been a video game that has gone through several restraints, so many users who earned a good amount of money unfortunately lowered their earnings, however, it is still a videogame that is generating a lot of income for its players.
