Super Mario World.
Today I want to flip the script on you guys. This game obviously will get a 10/10 or some crazy good score from me, much like all the golden gems of gaming.. Thats why they are GOLDEN GEMS. I just want to tell you guys a little more in dept about this game and give it a solid review from my perspective. To start, Super mario world was the next gen response to the mario craze that started on the NES. It was an upgrade in all ways! Super Mario world is a platformer that takes you on adventure from deep inside caves to the middle of a dolphin cove! This was THE FUTURE! Lets jump into this retro analysis. It is an upgraded Super Mario Bros!
AT first glance this is an obvious graphics update. The game drops you into an amazing world map that has a variety of different themes. Graphics done in this game are just so smooth and well done, and the game plays just as smooth as any classic mario game.
You are dropped into a ton of new mechanics and features as well. After you defeat the first boss the game opens up a nice solid variety of things that are noticed firsthand , as well as some secrets I want to discuss. Firsthand you will notice the feather. The feather allows mario to wear a cape and fly! ......well glide!! haha not as cool but still cool.
I want to talk about the bosses of this game. Each boss is well played. You will be fighting them in the most of creative ways. This is an update from the original mario games by far. The bosses from the originals were fun, especially mario 3, but these bosses take this to the next level. You will be fighting all sorts of different bosses with different strategies and once you beat them, you are given a different cool story with a solid animation of mario destroying the castle. This is exceptionally satisfying.

The Secrets.
If you play the game in a linear fashion you will have a blast. there are tons of adventurous places and secrets you will find along the way. If you are aware of those secrets this game will be a completely different experience. One of the main secrets in the game is the red levels.
On the map the levels are either yellow or red. The yellow levels are regular linear levels. The red levels have alternative endings. The alternative is found by searching the level for a key and a keyhole to put said key. Once you do this it opens a new path on the world map. These paths contain shortcuts, alternative paths, and secrets that connect this entire game. This connection is the star world. The star world contains a handful of star levels. these are the most creative levels and are needed to 100 % experience this game. If you want a true challenge, it is within these levels. I wont spoil things, but it is creative.

As you unlock the secrets in this game, you will see the entire world unlock into something unbelievable and let me explain why. During this era of gaming WE DIDNT HAVE THE INTERNET! That being said finding these secrets came from rumors or actually stumbling upon them in the game. We had to play through this game in a linear fashion. Beat it..and then explore further to find these. It was a grind like no other to find a red level that has a secret key of which is hard as hell to find. This can keep a gamer who likes to grind busy for months. This is the true challenge. If you can beat this game 100% means you will have my respect for a lifetime. This wasnt an easy task. To simply complete this game is a challenge.

This is an obvious golden gem of gaming. It is one the greatest games I have ever played and I would even put it on my top 10 favorite games. I definitely recommend you dont sleep on this game. 10/10 kind of game easy! I hope you enjoyed this different review on the golden gems of gaming. I dont usually use this formula. Another classic. I'm going through your entire blog history to see all the games that I love. I actually played this one again around September, October last year. Nintendo released the Nintendo SNES Mini that had about 20 roms loaded onto it - including this one. Managed to find the secret ending to the ghost house on the second island that give you access to a hidden level to farm unlimited lives and powerups. LOVE IT!
