Spyro The Dragon

I can remember getting a demo of this game from Pizza Hut for some promotion. The demo, much like the one for Metal Gear Solid, gave you a taste of the open world feeling. In spyro you are a dragon in a world run by dragons.. All the big dragons were put into stone and you are to release them from tis captivity! This is an action platformer and a very unique one if I do say so myself. To take the controls of a small dragon in a huge colorful world was very much so groundbreaking and unique for my life. Lets jump into this analysis. Check out some game play footage here:

Colorful fun!

The colorful unique world will be the first thing that you notice in this game. All sorts of landscapes to explore right off the back. This game will have you sucked in with the visuals. The graphics were great for the time and I totally love the colorful characters and landscapes. There is an amazing variety of worlds and levels you will explore and its a ton of fun.

Controlling Spyro is smooth as glass. His character charges at full speed, giving you a nice rush as you dont feel like you are dragging at any point in this game. Smashing into enemies is totally satisfying because you send them flying with a ram.. You also have the availability to blow fire from your mouth! This is something everybody loves from a dragon. While its not a huge pillar of flames, it certain is fun to smoke an enemy out. The gliding in this game is AMAZING.. Whereas you cant fly, you can glide some long distances. The game will force you at points to make risky jumps and this is always quite satisfying. One of the only issues I have run into with this game is that it makes me dizzy haha. This can be disorienting to some players. ...it didnt stop me... just was lame sometimes.

To advance in the game you have to collect treasure. You will trade the treasure to a guy who has a hot air balloon and he flies you from world to world. Each world is themed differently. You will be in the beautiful castle lands and go straight to the dry desert collecting treasure and freeing dragons. The worlds all have bosses of sorts and you will have fun fighting these guys. The bosses are usually large and require some sort of special technique to defeat. There also are these really cool flying levels which are a ton of fun. You will be flying through hurdles and collecting treasure which is a real pleasure and satisfying. All the levels hold secrets that will give you more treasure and some of the secrets are extremely clever.

OVERALL SCORE: 8/10 A REALLY FUN GAME!

Spyro the dragon was the seed that created many good Spyro games for many systems. The franchise all rooted from this game. This is a great time especially if you are into a good platforming game. Spyros worlds are adventurous and are sure to keep you entertained for hours at a time. I totally recommend you play the first game, with that it still holds up today! The other ones are great too, but its nice to see the origins of a game series. I hope you enjoyed this review on the best and worst of gaming daily!
